Re: Players we might be interested in....
People on here amaze me.
They are quick to knock or rubbish any player we sign who has not scored 20 goals in a season.
All 24 clubs in league 2 would like that player but only 3 got one last season.
Then people are raving about Josh Gordon.
Ok he scored 15 goals from 37 appearances last season.
In his first season with Barrow he only scored 6 goals from 1 fewer game.
In his 3 seasons at Walsall he scored 7 from 37, 9 from 35 and 5 from 36.
Not prolific is it.
Getting a consistent goalscorer in league 2 is not easy.
Any club that does will find those players mostly moving up a division as every club in the EFL wants them.
Let's just hope we can find a gem from somewhere.

You’re right. We cannot compete with others in the league for proven goals scorers. We gonna have to go prospecting down the leagues and keep our eye out for gems in all positions and take a punt.saltcellar wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 10:52 pm Getting a consistent goalscorer in league 2 is not easy.

You never know it might take off for Garner and Duffus yet. Think Bennet hasn’t worked out though.

Re: Players we might be interested in....
A lot of people already wrote garner off. 5 goals/assists in 16 games with a lot of appearances off the bench in his debut season with us isn’t the worst. Ask me again this time next year and it might be a different conversation but at the moment I’d give him a chance next year

Having alot of money does not mean you will win the League look at Stockport and Bradford while little old Carlisle had a experienced Manager and less money they won promotion.
PW is still learning the job and for those who have followed Barrow since the last time we were in the league we worry.
We were unfairly kicked out of the league and the one thing Covid gave us was promotion. I honestly think we would have missed out after Quigley got sent , maybe deliberately with a view to his move to Stockport.
We've seen Managers like Peter Kane come in no money trawled the leagues for player's
We were that short of player's we got one called Liddel?
It was not if he got sent off it was what minute he would go sure he must have been the most sent off player fir Barrow in its history
We look forward to the season with trepidation so of course we look at each signing .Let's be honest unlike a partner you cannot get rid of your feelings for your tram

This forum never fails; why would Scott Quigley deliberately get sent off to gain a move to Stockport in 18 months time?
Re: Players we might be interested in....
After a bit of googling (which I'm prone to when bored) I picked up on a similar comment with regard to Duffus and Spence. Both it appears were close to making a return to action toward the end of the season but were not considered due to lack of match fitness and the intensity of the remaining games,Morecambe fighting relegation and Halifax going for play-offs/FA Trophy. A summer break plus PSF's to boost game time might just see us surprised at a cost much less than some of the L2 'giants are throwing around.Garner who don't forget was carrying niggling injuries in a team that had lost its way a bit could also come good and Gordon might put pen to paper.Throw in Benni who I hope isn't snapped up by someone else and returns pre-season and its plain to see that its far too early to press the panic button. In a recent podcast PW stated that players were not signed without intense consultation with previous managers and often team-mates. Lets trust in him and the rest of the management and look forward to upsetting a few more applecarts come August.

Barrow AFC news algorithms are linking us with a young Aberdeen defensive / central midfielder - Dean Campbell.

The day the season got curtailed we were due to play struggling Wrexham. Albeit without Quigley. Our nearest rivals - Notts and Harrogate were due to play a Trophy game. (I think)Pedro wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 9:41 amI honestly think we would have missed out after Quigley got sentJonty wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 11:37 pm

Nothing is certain but a win against Wrexham would have put us back 7 points ahead of Harrogate and 10 ahead of Notts. Our superior goal difference would have required Harrogate to win 3 more than us and Notts 4 more than us with 8 games to go.
Not impossible but it would have required us to drop off the cliff in form and for those two to keep winning their games.
I am certain we’d have finished the job. Many will argue it should have been scrubbed but we won the title in the fairest way that could conclude it and here we are.

Re: Players we might be interested in....
Quotation from The Real EFL:
Barrow and Tranmere are the two clubs in contention for Campbell’s signature and having finished ninth and twelfth respectively in League Two last season, but could they be the perfect landing spots for the Scotsman?
Often deployed as a defensive or central midfielder, the addition of the 22-year-old would certainly bolster both side’s midfield options. Barrow have kept all of their core midfielders, but there is still space for Campbell to be in the midfield rotation. As for Tranmere, they have also retained the majority of their starters, however Campbell would come in as a breath of fresh air to the squad and be able to challenge for a starting spot in pre-season.
Both have been fairly active so far in the summer transfer window. Barrow have already signed ; Kian Spence from FC Halifax Town, Courtney Duffus from Morecambe, Junior Tiensia from Solihull Moors and David Worrall from Port Vale. The Bluebirds already making four signings is somewhat of a statement to the rest of the league about their plans for the season. After their successful ninth place in the 22/23 season, they’ll be looking to progress once again.
As for Tranmere, they’ve completed just one signing, but it was a big one. Rovers have signed ex-Carlisle striker, Kristian Dennis who scored 20 League Two goals last season, which is a strong first piece of business for Tranmere this summer, and Dennis will be the first of many to come through the doors at Prenton Park this season.

We were that short of player`s we got one called Liddel? real name was Stuart Liddell age 22 who signed for the club on a month`s trial after a spell in South African and previously playing for Albion Rovers.Pedro wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 9:41 amLuckily we had a good start last season.Jonty wrote: ↑Sat Jun 10, 2023 11:37 pm

Granted he had several suspensions while at the club that would eventually see him leaving the Club in February 1974, For the record PEDRO
Stuart Liddell played 66 times for the Club and received 14 Bookings and was sent-off ONCE away to Skelmersdale on October 20th 1973, time does play tricks with your mind PEDRO but Stuart Liddell was not the most sent-off player in the Clubs history.
Re: Players we might be interested in....
Might have been my youth at the time but I actually liked the lad. Put himself about with zero finesse but opposition players certainly knew he was there. My kind of player - at the time.behind the goals wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 2:09 pmWe were that short of player`s we got one called Liddel? real name was Stuart Liddell age 22 who signed for the club on a month`s trial after a spell in South African and previously playing for Albion Rovers.Pedro wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 9:41 am

I am not sure where you got the details but I ve done quick search and PJ Daly mentions Liddell in 2016 on here not sure how to copy it.SKIPPER wrote: ↑Sun Jun 11, 2023 2:41 pmMight have been my youth at the time but I actually liked the lad.
