Re: Players we might be interested in....
Close season going well I'd say.
A decent mix of young talent, and some senior well seasoned pros.
Up front we are big. No one below 6'2"", though having watched him Garner doesn't look that tall. I wonder if the height thing is a statement - Gordon and Waters were shorta***s.
Midfield options are various and excellent on paper.
Defence is questionable, but it's far from over, and the special element of loanees yet to be influential.
As someone else has said, very important....Think McClelland, Neal, Dunne, Yates to name but a few.

Campbell also played left back. Wand of a left pegblumooncrab wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 8:25 pmrussell_anderson wrote: ↑Fri Jun 23, 2023 8:06 pm Re a left back. I play bowls with a group of mostly local ex-footballers once a week, one who happens to be the owner of Havant&Waterlooville where Junior Tiensia was on loan around 3 years ago. I asked him his opinion and he was pretty positive. Says he is a quick and tough little guy.![]()

Midfield and forwards sorted. We need a left back, CH and reserve goalie . Thoughts ?Remember the days no-one was signed until A N Other and S O Else had strutted their stuff in the PSF's or even earlier in the Probables v Possibles game. As for what we still need. Lillis is more experienced than Farman and a capable stand in. Last season proved that an additional keeper might just be a waste of a squad place.Think we need another defender capable of filling in anywhere - Zuk perhaps? If Benni also returns pre-season think we are well served up front with great potential of service from midfield. Bring it on !

I remember going to a friendly and there was a trialist named in the programme as "Currant". It turned out to be Neil Tarrant.
Talking of whom, he came billed as a former £250,000 signing by Aston Villa, but after two spells at Barrow (one of which included a spectacular last minute goal to win an exciting cup match - someone with better memory will give the details) he had a host of clubs and ended up playing for Darlington Railway Athletic, whose ground is just 5 minutes walk from where I now live, scoring 21 goals in 36 games according to Wikipedia.

Definitely Nuneaton. We were 1-3 down and won 4-3 with that Tarrant stunner.
Don't let the old man in.

Nuneaton.
Might be wrong but I think Graham Antony got the equaliser before Tarrant hit the winner.

Ian Senior didn’t play in either of those games.

Was Ian Senior any good? It was early in my days but I remember him as a competent keeper but where does he fit in the Hoyland-Farrelly scale? Fireman iirc?Lancaster Branch wrote: ↑Sun Jun 25, 2023 5:37 pm Ian Senior didn’t play in either of those games.

Yeah, I would automatically say he was ‘alright’ but he was in a team that finished somewhere and nowhere in the NPL so in the grand scheme of things….hard to say, really.
