You're thinking of the previously mentioned Anthony Wilson from North Ferriby. He came in under Edmo at the start of the Casson era.

We've had players and managers but one who fits both is Brian Kidd. Arrived with a fanfare and hope (proved false). As a player he took going-through-the-motions to a new level. As for on the field inspiration he wasn't on the same planet as Vic Halom. Off the field there was plenty of urban myth (car etc) which may or may not be true. Definitely true was that he lost the dressing room alienating players like Peter McDonell and Kenny Gordon who left and joined Morecambe replacing them with the likes of Brian Edwards who was later to be suspended sine die after chasing an opponent wielding a railway sleeper in a Cheshire Sunday League game. Kidds' final act was also noteable denying in the EM a report in a Sunday paper that he was leaving,before walking out 24 hours later.

David Johnston the ex-Liverpool player is right up there in the didn't work out. He was player manager for a short while (1985/86?) and it was a disaster. From memory he lasted about 10 games and was sent off 1 or 2 times in that short time.

He didn’t to badly after leaving us mind coaching at both United and City

After he left he never wanted to acknowledge that he'd managed Barrow. It was like he just wanted to take that chapter out of his life.

Not one that never worked out at such because he was brilliant but Lewis hardcastle springs to mind with him having to pack in so young. Such a shame things worked out as they did for him because I think he'd be playing every week for us now
