For sure. It's due to having the league's best defence that we're 3rd. Lacking a goal-scoring striker - Garner and Proctor have 1 goal each after 20 league games. Not good enough. Ray has 3 and Canavan 2. Say no more.
We have scored 25 goals this season by 11 different players. 9 by Telford and Acquah then Whitfield on 2 and like you said Proctor and Garner on 1 each but those 3 have played half the games some of the other players have due to injuries etc. I think its good we have different players scoring rather than 1 person because you totally rely on them. Season has a long way to go so if 1, 2 or all our strikers make over 10 goals each we'd be doing ok. We have the second best defence in the league and in top 4 of teams with the best goal difference so if we win 1-0 2-1 and pick up points then we can't complain although I think the issue is chances created. Yesterday we created next to nothing for our strikers to use so if players are finding the strikers or putting crosses in then they won't score unless its through individual quality.

Day started off bad setting off at 5.15am and not arriving outside the ground till 2.45 pm, then having cretinous Maidstone stewards trying to stop Barrow fans from going in the ground for shouting BARROW. The game its self we were second best, Linesman and ref and also a plastic pitch may have contributed to the result but Maidstone are a decent time and never gave up. Thanks to the coach drivers who got us home safe in very difficult driving conditions .Hate getting beat in the F.A. cup but at the end of this season it might work in our favour, Manager and players will be hurting and this will give us a extra drive.

On that point, I was surprised that Telford wasn't in the starting line up. He seems to me the most likely to pick up half chances and make something of them.

I also thought this would be a game for Telford for other reasons. He's got good close control, good on the turn and good in tight situations which are important on the surface we were playing on. I was surprised he didn't start.

I think we lost to non-league clubs very early in our league career, but must be getting on for 100 years ago. I have a list of our complete FA Cup record, but don't have access to it at the moment.
You're correct. I've got the Complete Record of the FA Cup book to hand which lists every team who've made the 1st round records since 1871.

Barrow's defeats to a non-league team while members of the FL:
1921-22 - Lancaster Town 4th Qualifying Round
1922-23 - Bath City 6th QR
1923-24 - Carlisle 4th QR
1927-28 - Workington 4th QR
1928-29 - Mansfield R2

At the time, Carlisle and Workington were in the NE League and Mansfield were in the Midland League.

1st Maidstone goal - goalie error. #1 rule from a side-angle attack is guard your near-post. Farman is good but he's not perfect. 2nd goal no one could have saved.

Stevenage or Port Vale at home on the big "if only" not massive money spinners but a possible chance of making round 4. Oh well now we know thats it done for another year. Roll on Gillingham on Saturday

Looks like the draw was pretty underwhelming for the smaller teams, not really got the rewards they would be wishing for.

We have been on such a good run recently that a banana skin match like this one had disappointment written all over it.
The biggest negative surely is the loss of potential financial gains gained through progress in the competition.
Maidstone deserved the victory and took their limited chances. The winner was a truly fantastic goal. On the other hand, we barely looked like scoring and only a stroke of luck and an alert Whitfield led to us taking the lead in the first place.
Now let's tear Gillingham apart.

That draw softens the blow a little.

The FACup can be a fickle mistress.

Stevenage or Port Vale is about as awful as it gets. Neither will bring masses of supporters and both are probably better equipped to deal with Maidstone even on their carpet.

They may be lucky and get a TV deal and good luck to them if they do but I wouldn’t say it was nailed on.

It’s when somebody tells you that in the rehearsal draw you landed Man Utd away that it really hurts though.

A replay would have been good and it doesn't matter how many away fans turn up it would have been a winnable game, just hope the season doesn't change we have 26 games left to kick on and try and finish in the play offs.

Bad luck for Maidstone that draw. What's the betting that Stevenage or Port vale will beat them three or four nil, making us feel even more inadequate! ;)
