Gills on Saturday
Gillingham come to the fortress for there longest trip of the season. There away form recently in the league has been poor but will be boosted by a home win in fa cup over div 1 Charlton. The Gills have failed to beat Barrow in the last six meetings between the club's. The Last time the Gills did manage to beat Barrow was in 1969. Hope the Barrow public come out in force to support the best team Barrow have had since the late 60's.

Re: Gills on Saturday
And before we start getting the diehard fatalists that think the because of what happened on saturday our form is bound to nose dive I would just add the following.
Anyone who went to Northampton and watched the first round tie would have been struck by the utterly shambolic performance of the hosts that day sitting as they do a League above us. Chatting to a couple of their faithful after the game they were utterly dejected wondering where their season would go next. Even I was forced to wonder how Northampton's form would react to the defeat such was the poverty of their performance.
As it turned out they then recorded three consecutive league victories lifting them above the relegation zone.
Football is a game played on a pitch but often won largely between the ears of those playing it.

Re: Gills on Saturday
Don’t panic about the Gills coming too much.Been told by some Gills friends of mine it wasn’t that they played out their skin Saturday but they were surprised at how poorly Charlton played.Apparently Charlton supporters were booing and jeering their team re their performance.Let’s hope we bounce back from that performance at Maidstone.
Re: Gills on Saturday
Charlton only reached the second round after scraping a replay win over mighty Cray Valley Paper Mills !

Re: Gills on Saturday
Attendance will be affected by the pre Christmas effect. My concern is will the pitch be in a playable state, the heavy snowfall has now thawed, and saturated areas of land, along with rain forecast for Thursday and Friday, it could be in doubt.
Re: Gills on Saturday
If the game is on, I fully believe we’ll continue our run. 2-0 win.
Re: Gills on Saturday
I had the same worry so out of interest I went down to the Schneider Road pitches with a fork on my lunch break today. Few patches of snow left to melt but the surface felt and looked good. I'll repeat the task on Friday morning after the rain, and feedback on here. Then people will be able to adjust their weekend arrangements accordingly.Desmond2-2 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 10:25 am Attendance will be affected by the pre Christmas effect. Cheers Matty. I saved myself travelling to the Crawley game thanks to the gloomy prognosis on here, would appreciate it if you could help this week too.

Re: Gills on Saturday
So there will be pitch inspections in many back gardens throughout Barrow on Friday night. Think I will do the same in south Manchester just to make sure as well.

Re: Gills on Saturday
Saturday is a good game for us to bounce back. At home and against a decently placed team, all the ingredients for the perfect response.
Not too worried about the pitch being waterlogged after the snowfall. It's usually a 10:1 rainfall equivalent ratio, so an inch of snow is approximately 0.1 inches of rain.

Re: Gills on Saturday
The players might need gills to play on Saturday if fins remain as per forecast. Not perturbed though as I’m sure Gillingham won’t fancy the prospect of a long trip and a battering on a Tuesday night if the game does fall to the elements.
