So while we sit with our pipe and slippers all we have to do is cheer on FGR. A win...any win for them over Wrexham will move us up to 2nd. Come on you Veggies.

Can safely say that's waterlogged.

Serious question - I thought a lot of money had been spent on the pitch drainage system over the last few seasons yet despite the great work of Gareth and the team we seem to be having flooding problems. The Crawley game was also touch and go a few weeks ago. Is it all down to the unprecedented amounts of rainfall or is there something wrong with the drainage ?

In decades gone by I can’t recall many games falling due to the pitch being waterlogged, the pitch always drained well, maybe more down to the urbanisation of Holker St?

Seems definitely the right decision to call the game off yesterday judging by the rain that's coming down now and great pools of water all over the town.

Dumping tons of sand on the pitch for a quick fix might help ease flooding in the short-term but does it cause a longer-term problem?

Yeah, my myopic view concentrated on just the one team. But if, at the end of the afternoon, we are above Hollywood it would still be 'a good thing'. :)

FGR vs Wrexham PP too, as well as a few others. Seems we were the only ones to do it ealry enough not to get opposition fans' backlash on Twitter!

I do remember a Christmas or new Year game, possibly against Gateshead, that was played in an absolute mud bath. I could not believe that it was deemed fit to play. I also seem to remember the Doc blasting in a shot in at the Steelworks End. Just random memories these days, no idea how accurate they are or when it was.

I do vividily remember, however, the mud bath when we beat Crewe in Div 4 to almost guarantee promotion. I think Chas Edwards scored a long rainge shot that skidded through all the mud and water.

I think it’s a combination of a pitch which just hasn’t had the level of investment that other clubs have had in recent years (for obvious reasons) and the ridiculous amount of rain we have had. Wasn’t it double the annual average over the last 2 months? Here in Derbyshire everything is waterlogged. Many houses are struggling to cope with the amount of rain, with gutters overflowing. It’s what we have to expect with climate change and the only way we can deal with it at Holker Street is to spend a large amount of money, but as other postponements show, even then we will problems after particularly heavy spells of rain (and melting snow).

Good job we didn’t play really, weather would have made it impossible for a decent game of footie.

Went to both of those games the conditions in the gateshead game was a farce there was a massive puddle that covered the centre circle!
