Gills on Saturday
Re: Gills on Saturday
Vividly remember the Crewe game because of the biblical rain. Was late arriving and had to queue at the hse/wilkie road turnstile. Someone leaned over the wall to say we'd gone behind in the opening minutes. Finally got in like a drowned rat and by the time i'd walked along behind the goal we equalised before going on to win. The rest is history hopefully to be repeated in the near future.

Pleased/surprised to see Walsall have now taken the lead at Notts County, plus Grimsby beating Crewe, so all good so far…Stockport drawing, which would keep them within reach.

Not to mention unravelling up the coast. Lord Simpson effing and jeffing on RC. Even gave a veiled hint that he might quit if he has to face those comments from fans again. Fortunately they only have five games to go before they can start to spend the Yankee millions

Hero to zero in 8 months. Sometimes it seems that football managers are only as good as their last result. I suppose if we were to be promoted and then had a struggle in league 1 there would be quite a few fans who would lose patience with PW pretty quickly - assuming he had not been pinched by some other club in the summer.SKIPPER wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 5:35 pm Not to mention unravelling up the coast. Carlisle will be ok. Watch them pull away from the bottom come the end of January.

I think that if we do manage to get promoted at the end of the season, that will be the time to worry.P.W is on the crest of a wave at the moment and if he manages to achieve what seemed impossible a couple of season ago, that,s when the vultures will start to circle.P.W. will have achieved his aim ahead of schedule and if he was to.leave us for a much higher salary who could blame him.The club would obviously receive a decent amount of compensation with him having three years left on his contract. Also the players would obviously want higher salaries.Whether the club can afford it is another issue.I just hope if it does happen we aren't left in a similar position to when Ian Evatt left and we are given plenty of notice.I am just enjoying the ride at the moment.Jim wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 5:48 pmHero to zero in 8 months. Re: Gills on Saturday
PW will be on the radar of many clubs already and of course the higher he finishes with Barrow, the more clubs will be interested especially if promoted. My question would be around how his contact is set up for this possibility. I wonder if there is a buy out clause and if so, I hope that is high. Or whether we would be negotiating with clubs on a price to let him go. If so, his value is going up and up.
I suspect a lot of clubs would be willing to throw their offers in for his services. Let's just hope Barrow get a good deal for it.
In terms of L1 - I think we need to go for it and be on this wave for as long as possible. If PW gets us there, he deserves a L1 / or even Championship club and we just have to hope the board make another great appointment.

If we did go up, and you have to aim high I know, I don't think we could afford it. It's not really about transfer fees in League 1, it's about the doubling at least, of the wage bill. Decent gates at the moment in League 2 of course they are but, I think those gates would have to be nearly doubled just to survive in League 1 and I just don't think this area could offer that constant support.

Re: Gills on Saturday
I too am enjoying this journey immensely but If we do get promoted I think PW along with IW could leave. Reason being their stock would be high. A season of struggling in EFL 1 their stock would drop. Both are ambitious and on an upward trajectory career wise. Personally I don't believe that without a massive cash injection we are ready for EFL one and the current owners as brilliant as they have been wouldn't have sufficient funds for us to compete in the league above. The funding from promotion only rises by £500k where as players salaries double in many cases.mall wrote: ↑Sun Dec 10, 2023 12:19 pmQuite right, I too am enjoying the ride at the moment.Methuselah wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 9:03 pm
