I’m sure the board will make some available like they always have if the right man is there. I really believe we need some bodies to support us

On the striker question. Would we have Billy Waters back? Even on loan until the end of the season. He's obviously frozen out at Wrexham and surely they would be looking to offload him.

Re: Wrexham AFC (A) match thread
Speaking to a Wrexham fan last night said he'd heatd a rumour its a possibility to replace a current striker going out on loan. Regrets the move. Financially sound but done nothing for his football career.
Re: Wrexham AFC (A) match thread
Just because we lost a game, doesn't mean we have to go out and sign people. I have been impressed this season that we have strength in depth. Admittedly, we have lost some to injury, but most clubs will have done so at this stage of the season.BarrowLad71 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 5:54 amI’m sure the board will make some available like they always have if the right man is there. The 'striker' ( or perhaps one should say 'goalscoreing forwards') situation is complicated. We have not found a reliable goalscoring pair up front. Various combinations have been tried and all have worked sometimes and failed sometimes. Acquah, after early promise, has faded somewhat: it was his strength that held the ball and fed Newby for our goal, but after that he didn't get much joy. I expect his confidence is low at the moment. People write off Proctor, but he has never had the chance to get some games under his belt and get fit. Telford looks at times like a goal poacher, but not often enough. As for the suggestion to bring back Waters, No!
This season has been great so far, but Wrexham probably showed us how far short we are from being ready for promotion. Of course, promotion this season would be nice, but do we want to 'do a Carlisle' and find we were not ready for it. Wild and his coaching staff will be learning week by week where the team could be strengthened. If someone 'just right' becomes available in January, and space can be made (eg by moving someone on), I am sure Wild will go for it, but more important is securing the players who are out of contract in summer and who we want to keep (new contracts will inevitably cost more) and building for next season.

Re: Wrexham AFC (A) match thread
Our club and this group of players have something money can’t buy TEAM SPIRIT I am very confident we will achieve automatic promotion. We have competed for and earned 45 points in a very competitive league, there are no easy games. Wrexham had the luck at a defining moment and should have been a man down. They very much took advantage and clinically stuffed us with their much vaunted quality but we will bounce back. Surely we’ve got to believe more in ourselves these lads won’t let us down. Trust Wozza and Stevo make a full recovery.

Agree with the previous comment
When you see any media of the lads they look like they enjoy being a team, no big heads causing trouble in the dressing room. Thats mainly down to PW and the coaching team bringing in who he believed would make us better. I personally think every player who left last season has been replaced by better players!
People need to realise we play to be hard to beat thats why we have one of the best defences in the league, went 14 unbeaten. You could win this league winning 1-0 every week but some people want more goals (we all would like that but not if it means losing more games) Yeah the fowards maybe should be in double figures by now but thats also down to the service to them. If this is the squad at the end of January then I'd personally be happy with it. There is No relegation fight this year so lets enjoy it and see where it takes us.

We're still in an extremely good position in the league - if at the start of the season I'd have been offered 4th place in the league by New Year, I'd have snapped your hand off. We've played most of the big guns away from home already (I think we've only got Notts County and Wimbledon away left to play of the teams in the top 7) and we have a lot of home games left still where we're still unbeaten. Plenty of weeks coming up without midweek games to worry about, so plenty of time to get the squad recharged after this manic Christmas period. Lots to be optimistic about.

For what it's worth, without having seen any replays, I didn't think at the time that either of the McClean incidents were worthy of a yellow. The first one, both players went flying in, in fact when the ref blew I was expecting the ref to award a free kick against us. The second one was a 50-50.

I didn’t say because we lost a game we needed to go and sign people. The squad is good we all know that but I think we are missing a little bit if we want to go and keep the form for the year. The way we play we need the squad and the running the midfielders do is a credit. I just believe we need that extra body in there to take the pressure off some. And no I don’t want a striker we’ve gone one sat on the bench who scores 20.Jim wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 8:56 amJust because we lost a game, doesn't mean we have to go out and sign people. Re: Wrexham AFC (A) match thread
One thing I noticed when Worrall was down, our players were gathered around him or on the sidelines, which is fair enough as they would have obviously been concerned for him. Whilst they were doing that though, Wrexham was moving the ball about, keeping warm and the coaching staff was dishing out tactics.. we looked rocked when the game restarted and they were rearing to go and the game was won and lost in that 14 minute injury time.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 8:07 pm
Their other attribute is that they are a very physical side. They like to bully the opposition. and as evidenced by their disciplinary record they get a fair share of reds But they don’t mind this because they are so effective up front.
Today they fell asleep at the start and took a good 20 minutes to wake up. Our tactics in that period were spot on. Slow them down and counter. The Worrall injury stopped the game in its tracks. For whatever reason we backed off at that point and allowed Wrexham to come on to us. You allow them the run of the pitch they will score. And they did in a cluster.
It had a massive impact on us.

To be honest after that incident the result was immaterial some things are more important, for all our player`s knew Worrall could have been seriously hurt or god forbid worse so we have to cut them a bit of slack ( not getting at you just an observation).sempre contigo wrote: ↑Tue Jan 02, 2024 5:04 pmOne thing I noticed when Worrall was down, our players were gathered around him or on the sidelines, which is fair enough as they would have obviously been concerned for him. Yes, I made the point that it was completely understandable.

Re: Wrexham AFC (A) match thread
Agree, it will have been hard for players to maintain full focus when one of your team mates has took a nasty injury and bodies do wind down when stood for 10 minutes. Not saying that we weren’t at the races becuase we had little reply to the three goal blast but then losing Stephenson second half just rounded off a bad day.

Never mind their Deadpool owner, a more apt Marvel character for their tactics would be juggernaut
