4G pitches

A few years ago, there were plans for the club to build a 4g pitch in the town that could be used by our team as a base when in Barrow and hired out to the local community when not.

Have these plans been completely shelved?

Something Paul Casson talked about at the time won't be happening now, the main pitch needs plenty of work doing in the off season.

Just discussing the situation with a friend at the game yesterday regarding local teams access (or rather lack of) access to facilities. There was some kind of plan by the FA or LFA posted here or elsewhere about Barrow being a target area and i remember it being talked about in the aftermath of promotion but nothing since.

I suppose that in the grand scheme of things, upgrading HS has had to take priority for the club and overall it isn’t their responsibility to provide facilities for football as a whole.

Not a dig at the club, but it’s a disgrace there’s not a full size 4G pitch in Furness. The nearest I believe is Kendal?! Something needs to be done!

And to think a paid employee did work for the Lancashire FA for a number of years and he was from Barrow. You would have thought the individual would have got something in place for our town but no we are still waiting for a full size 4G pitch

Plenty of free playing pitches in the town, look at Ormsgill playing fields, loads of space and doesn’t get used very often, I don’t see what difference adding 4g would make, but I do remember a while back the club trained at the one at furness college as a one off. Don’t understand some people criticising our pitch also, did anyone watch the Bradford groundsmen vid? The grass is practically dead since the frost.

As my earlier post mentioned, the club isn’t responsible for it, just that there was at some point, plans in place for the club to build something and I wondered if that was still the case.

4g pitches allow football to be played all year round and as they’re usually floodlit they can be trained upon by clubs throughout the week without being weather damaged. It makes a huge difference to number of people on the community being able to train and play at this time of year.

We’ve also got a ridiculous situation where pitches at Furness college and Furness academy, built with public funds are refusing to open at weekends or for a very limited set of hours. Add that pulse is currently closed then it’s just a shame that local kids and adults aren’t getting the access that others do across the country.

I have been taking part in the 24 hour charity football match (3 matches over the years) raising funds for a local 4g pitch. 2 years ago we actually played it on Holker Street. These 4g pitches are unbelievably expensive to build. Like you wouldn't belive the cost. So maybe when you see us do this year's 24 hour match alot more people will get behind our game and get the funds boosted for a pitch owned by the community. Over the last 3 matches we've raise over 20k.

Wouldn’t it be an ideal time for the town for various Government & local councils & the Private Sector ie BAE & other companies, Various social & sporting grants including BAFC & BRLFC to together take over & revamp if possible or build a few pitches with more than adequate security, Then all could benefit going forwards.

Do workers at petrol stations, restaurants & supermarkets (for example) have to work 6-7 days every week?

I just play the football match but I do know the 2 organisers of this event have been pushing for a pitch in the local area for a number of years to no avail. It's amazing how little response you get from Barrow Council and BAE once you start asking for money. This town should be booming. Unfortunately alot of that boom is heading straight back down the A590 on a Friday afternoon.

The cost of a full size 4G pitch is a MILLION and possibly more. That's before you staff it and maintenance.
