John..........?
Re: John..........?
I was actually sat in the same old fashioned 6 seater carriage as John Murray-he was a great guy.Reginald wrote: ↑Sun Mar 14, 2021 11:03 amBeard-no, not as I remember.
He was always clean cut and, if I remember correctly, he used to drink in the Dominics which used to be down at the bottom end of Rawlinson Street.
The last time I ever saw John was on the train from Barrow when we played at Worcester City-early eighties?.The train was rammed with Barrow supporters.
According to my mate-John was a foreman Electrician in the Yard-if that helps!.
That game at Worcester, was there a player for us called John Gerrard who
scored that day? my memories all over the place now so can't be sure.
Re: John..........?
also on that train. I think the train was organised by a ramblers club who happened to be going to Worcester.

I think John used to run the club shop in the ground which was where they turned the floodlights on. I remember buying loads of old programmes off him when I was a kid and we always had a nice chat to him. Nice man

Re: John..........?
Going to see your Dad in that shop and spending my pocket money on old programmes was part of my routine for a good long while, all part of me getting ‘the bug’ that endures to this day.Del M wrote: ↑Wed Dec 06, 2023 7:49 pm @Reginald - a massive thank you for such wonderful memories of my dad. I've just found this thread and it means so much to me and the family to know that he - John Murray - is still remembered. Some of my early memories are being with him at the football, home and away, and - when he was working on those floodlights - staring up at him as the scuttled up the pylons! Later on I helped him in the shop at the ground.
If any of you are at the match on Saturday please listen out for the ball sponsor - on behalf of my family we are sponsoring it in dad's name.
I only get back to Barrow every so often and live overseas now, for the first time in about 30 years I will be there on Saturday and would be brilliant to hear more from some of you, especially if Phil Yelland is around - I remember him!
He was a nice fella, your Dad.
Re: John..........?
Cheers @Lancaster Branch that means a lot and so glad the bug has endured! Gutted the game is postponed tomorrow, saw a photo of the pitch today and it ain't good. All the best, Derek

Spot on - thank you @kenny lowe fan club - there was always a good chat in the shop. And I forgot that's where the switches were, I used to help dad switch the lights on when I was there, big switches! cheers, Derek
