Have we ever beaten Burnley in the Lancs cup? We seem to be eternal bridesmaids whenever we’ve come up against them. Not surprisingly perhaps.

Not a full answer but we played them four times between 1966 and 1972, losing each time.

I'll look for more information later but I think the 1966 game was the final at Holker Street (0-4) in front of a 7000+ crowd.

Our only win was in 1955, having beaten Manchester City (home replay aet) and Liverpool (home replay) to meet Oldham Athletic whom we beat 2-0 at Holker Street in front of 6110.

I may be wrong, but I have it in my head that this final was actually played at Burnley. Happy to be corrected, as I'm sure someone will know.

We did play Burnley in the Lancashire Cup at Turf Moor in the late 60's, but not sure if it was a final or not.
I was there, but the old memory ain't what it used to be

I remember as a kid Barrow playing Burnley in the Lancs cup and I think Newton and Waldren played for them and maybe even Ralph Cotes.

Sorry - not found my Lancashire FA information. I think they no longer hold their Cup records, possibly now at the National Football Museum.

Manchester United at Old Trafford. Can't remember the result but I do remember reading the Evening Mail report of the game.

Apparently, Barrow played some excellent football and the Stretford End were singing 'Mulvaney For England' (Jimmy Mulvaney Barrow AFC Striker). My Uncle attended the game and said the United fans stood on The Stretford End couldn't believe the quality of football that Barrow AFC produced that evening

Whilst on the subject of 'Mickey Mouse' Cups social media was flooded last night with Carlisle fans bleating with joy because they beat a Whitehaven Amateur team 12-0 in the...wait for it...Cumbria Cup I don't really value the Lancashire Cup but at least we don' t play Amateur teams. And then rave about it after beating them! How the so called 'Mighty' have fallen

I've never heard of the Cumbria Cup! Who enters that? Is it the traditional 'Cumberland' teams or open to all modern day Cumbria I wonder?

It’s the Cumberland Cup and it’s down to who your local football authority is for entry

Same as we play in the Lancashire Cup due to barrow being dealt with by the LFA the teams in the Cumberland cup are under the jurisdiction of the Cumberland FA

A quick scan of the News & Star reveals that the unfortunate team was Whitehaven Miners Social and that the score was in fact 13-0 (unlucky for some).

It transpires that instead of playing youth team players Carlisle sent out a team containing a fair few 1st team fringe players.

They will now play the winners of the other tie between Workington and Maryport Athletic.

Delving into my scrapbook, I can confirm that we lost 4-0 at home to Burnley in the Final on 16 May 1966. I also have a report headed "Barrow rock United stars" for the semi final replay at Old Trafford on 11 March 1970. As mentioned, Barrow won 2-1 after extra time. It was 1-1 after 90 minutes - goals by Ryan, 38 mins, for Man U and Goodeve (og), 78 mins, for Barrow, and Mulvaney got the winner on 93 minutes.

United team was: Rimmer, Brennan, Woods, Murphy, Goodeve, Stiles, Ryan, Fitzpatrick, Gowling, Law, Givens. One sub: O' Sullivan.
