Train derailment Grange

Northern trains report derailment near Grange caused by a sink hole. No casualties. Trains replaced by buses. Journey times extended by up to 90 minutes.

I assume this will mean no services for several days. Will affect any Barrow and Newport fans travelling by train tomorrow.

Do things ever get sorted same day in modern Britain? There will neeed to be an elf and safety inspection, engineers may be working from home, whole embankment will need stabilising, etc etc. I can see a 6 month engineering project

Judging by the size of the sinkhole that caused the derailment i doubt trains will be running later today

A somewhat flippant remark from GTBLUE a man that obviously has no idea of the size of the job ahead. The trains are already cancelled for the rest of the day. Let's hope for him it is repaired for morecambe if he is going.

Would you reopen the line without inspecting it and fixing it? Seems careless.

The main thing is no one was hurt, it could've been a bad one, but thankfully wasn't.

Probably couldn't have happened at a better time, being very early morning and with just 8 people onboard, including staff.

Will hopefully be fixed and back up and running soon.

Clearly a misguided attempt at humour. But you must admit there isn't much sign of a "can do, let's get it sorted ASAP" attitude in many areas of the public infrastructure.

No way it will be sorted today, it is a mess. It will be lucky to be fixed in weeks. The train will have been slowing down into the station, however, speed or lack of it doesn’t matter, still derails, people still get injured etc.

Do not travel message put out and buses not a definite.

I agree to an extent but there’s a difference between progressing with, say, a new link road or electrification of train lines compared to getting an accident site back up and running.

Anyway, this is verging on ‘off topic’ so - hopefully everyone can get to the match tomorrow, whether by rail, road, water or air.
