Enough PJ. Otherwise they’ll be confusing your posts with mine!pjdaly wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 6:15 pmSB, at a time such as this – the pre-electoral period – would the term "kind MP" represent the ultimate oxymoron? Words such as devious, treacherous, dishonest, along with something such as "say-anything-to win-your-vote", seem to be more appropriate as accompaniments to the term "MP". I'm sure our poster Mister Pleasant is none of these things but your use of the shorthand of "MP" had me thinking about something completely different. But if "kind MP" is a highly oxymoronic idea at this particular time, the term "moronic MP" would surely not be oxymoronic in the slightest. (I am aware I am going off-topic here but that's fitting as that's what they resort to when they want to avoid answering a question).
Yes, I know, red card, I'm already walking . . .
Apologies . . . back to "Barrow's next manager" . . .

Re: Barrow’s next manager
Not to sound negative, but Stephen Clemence finished 12th with Gillinghams owner being a multi millionaire from the states. Hope he does well though for us though, and the gills fans on social medial hold no grudge against him and seem to rate him. Has a huge amount of experience at the top level as a midfielder and would hopefully improve Gotts, Campbell etc.

If it's true then he should have a decent pre season so could well be a case of horses for courses.Bombadel wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 11:10 pm Not to sound negative, but Stephen Clemence finished 12th with Gillinghams owner being a multi millionaire from the states. Re: Barrow’s next manager
He never joined Gillingham until November. He had to get 4 players out to bring 4 in. Fans said he wasn't supported in January window and many would like to have seen him given a full summer as they think he has the potential to be a good manager.Bombadel wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2024 11:10 pm Not to sound negative, but Stephen Clemence finished 12th with Gillinghams owner being a multi millionaire from the states. Fair enough, according to their press release they let him go to take the club forward, “best chance of having that success is by making a change” PW with his confidence and connection to the fans was always gonna be a tough act to follow, I guess results and consistent performances will speak louder than fist bumps.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 8:44 amHe never joined Gillingham until November. PW also had a young family and mortgage and was keen to be a success, whereas, Clemence seems more like the David Dunn calibre of manager, guess time will tell.

Doesn’t Clemence have a family and mortgage? What makes you say he’s not keen to be a success?Bombadel wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 9:38 amFair enough, according to their press release they let him go to take the club forward, “best chance of having that success is by making a change” PW with his confidence and connection to the fans was always gonna be a tough act to follow, I guess results and consistent performances will speak louder than fist bumps.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 8:44 am

Playing at the top level (250 appearances in the prem and football league) there isn’t the same financial pressure to succeed. Only my opinion, like I say, PW had a huge level of confidence and ambition. Just feels like this new appointment is more in the Dunn category.Big_Bluebird wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 9:44 amDoesn’t Clemence have a family and mortgage? Re: Barrow’s next manager
Well the Gillingham forum take on him can be summarised as - nice bloke, decent ideas, needs some development, treated harshly by the club when he didn’t meet their ambitions after being handed someone else’s squad.
In other words he didn’t fit. Had PW been handed that job it’s difficult to see a degree of fit there either.
So the idea of a Wood/ Clemence combo if it worked is not a bad one. If it’s true then I hope we’ve done due diligence and this is not a “rebound” appointment.
One word of caution. Part of his problem at Gillingham was I think his difficulty in working with their DoF Kenny Jacket who’s instincts as most of us will know are those of a unreconstructed EFL football manager.

Whoever it is to raise the bar on Wild we need to challenge for promotion next season.

Re: Barrow’s next manager
Not sure about the new setup. It seems that Wood chooses the players and the head coach has to work with them. I suspect it may be a bit different to Wild's 'good person first and good player second' which I liked.
Re: Barrow’s next manager
Fair point, time will tell I guess, one of the board had a saying that you don’t let good people go, (unless, as the rumours say, Wild has broken his contractual agreements) feels like we’re taking a gamble and starting again.bhbb wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 10:00 amCould have said the same of evatt?Bombadel wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2024 9:51 am
