Me too. I would like Wild to have been given another year. Granted the team bombed in the last few games - but who knows - he might have already known which way it was going under the DoF, who now seems to be in charge. Wonder if Hornby knows that! ;)

Not sure where this Director football title comes from. Even on the statement regarding Pete Wilds departure Iain Wood was referred to as "sporting director" as has been his title since he joined us two years ago.

Fair point. Website describes him as sporting director. I may be wrong, but my understanding is that the new head coach will be reporting to him as his 'line boss'. Good luck to them both and everyone else next season.

Yes and Iain Wood will be reporting to Hornby, Shearer and Wilkes as his boss. It does not mean Clemence can't be his own man and can't identify players he wants as some folk seem to think. It's more the negotiations with agents and players is done by Iain Wood not the manager.

Hopefully first thing he’s doing is ringing Ben Whitfield and trying to tempt him back with the promise of more attacking football

Would be a massive statement that would get a lot of fans on his side I would imagine. Can't see it happening though sadly. Seems he plays 3-5-2/5-3-2 which we all know doesn't suit Whitfields strengths

Could have said the same of evatt?
Fair point, time will tell I guess, one of the board had a saying that you don’t let good people go, (unless, as the rumours say, Wild has broken his contractual agreements) feels like we’re taking a gamble and starting again.
It does feel like something of a gamble but we don’t know how many suitable candidates were available at the time we let PW go.

How we start the season is crucial, get off to a bad start and I fear he won’t last long: cue the managerial merry-go-round.

Time will tell. Not a clue what happened to wild, I think he deserved another season at the least but footballs a weird game. Think you may be right about taking a gamble, although he does have a good core of players to be working with so let’s see.
