AFC Wimbledon
Re: AFC Wimbledon
Thought we had got out of jail after the Farman/Canavan calamity to go in level at halftime after the Wimbledon goalkeeper gave Andrew Dallas an early Christmas present, as Wimbledon had the better of the first half.
We matched Wimbledon second half until the last twenty minutes. Just can’t switch off like that then we stop doing the basics and glaze over to allow Stevens free passage. Then we push on they pick us off game over. Something not quite right with the team at the moment goal scoring aside. Needs addressing pretty darn quickly as the slump needs sorting, Chesterfield and Bradford looks daunting at present.

Re: AFC Wimbledon
We are a mid table team at the best we’re not improved what we had last year harmony and she said we’ve got better than what we had which is bullshit. We are not addressed from last year which were scoring goals the strikers we have and not up to it and midfielders and creating things a shite, but lots of people just think just in the football league we should be happy

Amazing how those figures are so close to each other 2,779 and 2,781.behind the goals wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 7:24 pm
Home Fans for last 3 home league games, 2,779 v Notts County, 3,047 v Colchester & 3,048 today so crowds are already dropping, the first 2 home league games 3,037 v Crewe & 2,781 v Port Vale.
3,037, 3,047 and 3,048.
At least they show some kind of consistency!

Re: AFC Wimbledon
Having been at the game today I thought half the team had no fight. When Newby was running down the wing with the ball the supporters were having to tell the players to move up the pitch to support him .Him and Eccleston ran themselves into the ground going up with the ball, putting in passes and crosses with half of the players chasing the game arriving too late and missing the shots as they came across. We often saw shots going across the opposition's goal with nobody getting on the end of them.
We seem to be spending far too much time passing the ball sideways and backwards when we should be moving the ball up the pitch with accurate passing. The ball seemed to spend a lot of time in the air with players hoofing it instead of trapping it and passing it on quickly. When the ball came off their goalie there was nobody going after the rebound Going after second balls is something we need to improve on.
Listening to Andy Dalass's interview although he said the mood between the players was good it didn,t sound like it was by his demeanour. It,s all very well saying we move onto the next game at Chesterfield (which I,m going to)but if we aren,t more aggressive around the goalmouth we are on for another game where we switch off and are punished for it.I hope I am wrong but unless we change are tactics I cannot see where the goals are going to come from.

Re: AFC Wimbledon
Defensive errors ( and not scoring) have been our most consistent feature for a couple of months now. I don’t care how we do it but we need to start winning. I said I was worried a few weeks back. Today , confidence drained out of the team when the second goal went in .
I’m trying to be objective - football is not too bad but winning is everything and we’re miles off that .

Re: AFC Wimbledon
From early season optimism…..to Stamford Bridge and then we drop off the face of the earth since. Form has been horrific since we visited Chelsea.
Only time we ever start with two up top was away to Chelsea ffs, how’s that make sense? We simply look lost all over the park, lack leaders to grab a game by the scruff of the neck and look devoid of structure or a plan B. Infact I’m not even sure what our plan A is at present truth be told. Anyone know our way of playing or style cos I couldn’t tell you?

Part of the problem has been not getting enough bodies following up into the box.Methuselah wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 9:30 pm lputting in passes and crosses with half of the players chasing the game arriving too late and missing the shots as they came across. We often saw shots going across the opposition's goal with nobody getting on the end of them.

Re: AFC Wimbledon
We should be ok this Saturday at Chesterfield after 8 home league games have W1 D6 L1 what could go wrong.
Re: AFC Wimbledon
No plan A and no plan B sums it up
We were promised this attacking front foot style, not happened, had injuries yes but Mahoney hasn’t done it yet, we create f*k all
I feel that 3rd December the club will be tweeting the corner flag picture with a statement of relieving Stephen of his duties

Re: AFC Wimbledon
A succinct and accurate summary. Your first 2 observations will not be long term but there is no chance of the third being rectified until the transfer window. We had just as much of the game as Wimbledon but they created 2 second half goals out of nothing by a striker finding space in a crowded penalty are and getting in quick strikes. We have nobody capable of doing that.32mile_cul-de-sac wrote: ↑Sat Nov 16, 2024 5:39 pm Defence had an off day, midfield missed Spence, toothless in the final third. Result defeat.

Re: AFC Wimbledon
Sometimes I can hardly believe the rubbish I see on here. People criticising our defenders when, even after an admittedly bad day, have still only conceded more than 2 teams whilst there are only 6 teams who have scored less and at our current rate there will be even less soon. Talking about formations? It not the formations that are the problem, it's the ability of the forward players!
We have Dallas, Kirk, Garner, Telford, Kouyate who wouldn't get into any other team in the league. Newby who has some ability but is weak, Mahoney who also has some ability but is slow and puts in little effort.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with our defenders and nothing wrong with our midfield that a decent creative attacking midfielder wouldn't correct but there is absolutely nothing right about our attacking options and that will never improve with the current players. We are a little better when Acquah plays as he's the only forward player with any strength and can, at least, hold the ball sometimes but however well we defend and however much possession we have we are not going to score goals with the current strike force or I should say non-strike force!

Re: AFC Wimbledon
I have to agree Russell. The forwards weren’t up to it last year and any success was built on a good defensive unit. Since then both Whitfield and Stockton have gone and been replaced by Kouyate, Dallas and you can add Kirk and Mahoney….russell_anderson wrote: ↑Sun Nov 17, 2024 1:01 am Sometimes I can hardly believe the rubbish I see on here. Forwards are powder puff and a defenders dream to play against. Lightweight and predictable and don’t work enough. Midfield needs to move the ball quicker at times yes and forwards but I think the lack of movement up top and wide doesn’t help.
