Re: Next Head Coach?
Pretty sure I remember an interview with Ian Wood talking about the recruitment process. He mentioned a " go to data base " with various names on it. Not sure if it was players or Managers / Head coach. Be interesting to see if he`s still using it !
Re: Next Head Coach?
Whoever we do bring in short or long term their pay needs to be measurable milestone based with certain goals set as the season progresses. Player contracts too going forward. Not sure this happens.
Re: Next Head Coach?
It was managers / head coaches. I'm sure it is still being maintained, no idea who would be on it. The people who've left League Two clubs this season I don't see turning up at Barrow.steel panther wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 11:21 pm Pretty sure I remember an interview with Ian Wood talking about the recruitment process. I don't think Stephen Clemence ever gave anything other than his all. If I found out his pay had been docked because we lost a lot I don't think it would make a lot of odds. If players were offered anything other than standard terms they would just go elsewhere.
Re: Next Head Coach?
Never mentioned docking pay. Reviewing expectations/contracts in a milestone form pre agreed before signing. They get bonuses for achieving certain rounds in cups usually anyway.StephenD wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 11:39 pmI don't think Stephen Clemence ever gave anything other than his all. Re: Next Head Coach?
I always wanted SC to succeed as he seemed a decent bloke but the last couple of games he seemed broken and we didn’t look like winning a game and a change was needed. I might be tempted to go for an experienced head to fill in for rest of season then make an appointment in the summer.

So you think there should be a bonus system but you think there is one? Otherwise I don't really know what you mean.McMark wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 11:49 pmNever mentioned docking pay. Football operations advisor at Basford United in NPL PremierSKIPPER wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 10:17 pm Don't know if he has opted out of the management game (three years since his last appointment) but Paul Cox would be a good shout. 44% win rate at Mansfield and similar with us.Always sounds extremely knowledgeable when co-commentating on RC and will have picked up a good insight to most of the squad from this.
Re: Next Head Coach?
How?? Because that’s how he played? Set piece coach for 2 years? How many goals conceded v how many scored? Yeh give him the gaffers job
Re: Next Head Coach?
Feel like they’ll go for someone like Paul Hurst
Re: Next Head Coach?
Taylor is only here as a interim manager when we sack the incumbent.Louis29 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 10:05 pmWhy down a different route?Jonty wrote: ↑Sat Jan 18, 2025 9:57 pm
Not so sure. He’s served the club well but think we need to go down a whole new route.
Whoever it is must absolutely not lower expectations in the way some have previously. I dread another “well we’re Barrow, we’ll give it a go, see how we get on, …but don’t expect too much”
Not saying you are wrong but Clemence was a Premier league Number 2, Wild a non league play off manager and Evatt an unproven ex manager.
Looking at that what isn’t to say Tayls is the right fit???
Bit of Spit, Sawdust and Grit is what we need and that is how he played. Give him one game and see the response….will be interesting to see what happens
If he was judged on his set piece coaching he would be gone to
Re: Next Head Coach?
Action should have been taken several weeks ago, now we are in trouble. The job is too big for Taylor, even as a temp. You will see on Saturday, as another 3 points slip away. Cox as temp, then maybe Ryan Lowe would take it on.
Hope Ian Wood doesn’t hold sway over the board this time, his last choice wasn’t much cop.

Re: Next Head Coach?
Would Ryan Lowe be worth a punt with Mark Hughes who was his number 2 at Plymouth and currently playing at Clitheroe be affordable.
United legend Mark Hughes would bring kudos, but at the end of the day the club has to get this one right ..
Surprised to be honest Clemence was allowed to bring players in before the Swindon game, with the owners maybe knowing he had that game to save his ass

Re: Next Head Coach?
Yeah Ryan Lowe sounds a decent shout if we could afford him, hopefully a manager that engages with the fans more as well, SC was a bit stand offish, even when we went top, Wild for his faults he’s still doing the fist bumps as Fleetwood beat Salford, (even though he’s only been there 5 minutes)
