Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers, match thread
We need at least a point on Saturday and have to beat Gillingham!, people keep forgetting all the bottom 8 will e playing each other, I think morecambe play Newport on Tuesday and Swindon play Carlisle this Saturday!
Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers, match thread
The back three didn't look great last night and I'm concerned about that left hand side, Cameron looked very uncomfortable huge mistake aside and Jackson hasn't rediscovered his early season form. We could go back to a 4-2-3-1 and drop Cameron but that sacrifices a striker and we'd probably get the best out of Smith playing off either Acquah or Pressley. The other option is a 4-4-2 but we have no wingers that have really delivered and central midfield is our strongest area and therefore we'd be limiting ourselves to picking two of Williams, Gotts, Campbell and Spence. Plenty for the manager to think about I'm sure.
Always a cliche but I'm sure Whing would've learned more from last night than Saturday.

Popular side since '03.

You're codding aren't you?
Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers, match thread
Wouldn't mind seeing Fletcher in the squad (currently injured) as hes at attacking midfielder but not too sure who you'd leave out. I do feel a smallish bit sorry for Cameron as i don't think he was expecting the ball as he was clearly seen pointing at Farman to Spence after the goal so must have thought it was going to the keeper and not him although should always concentrate!
On another note there was a couple of blokes near me in the stand with various team logos on (Hull city being one) taking notes ! Highly like they were watching Donny players

As with the original comment best accompanied with a pinch of salt, me thinks!
Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers, match thread
I think the pass sideways caught him unawares, plus possibly a bobble on the pitch too, so I would not pillory him too much for that. (was it Spence or Williams who passed to him?).
There is quite a bit of criticism of Cameron and several opiions that he is rubbish. How many games has he played so far? It's a bit soon to write someone off. I do think, however, that he should have got his head on the cross that led to the first goal. It seemed a half hearted jump, too easy for the player who headed it back across.
Regarding the defence, in spite of Donny having something like 60-70% of the possession, our defence limited them to very few attempts on goal.

Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers, match thread
It was Williams, even then he's a seasoned professional his attempt when he received it was absolutely pathetic, the other was basic defending he was one of the reasons Jackson couldn't go up too many times because he wasn't moving across to cover, we've had better defender's in non league, the notts county fans critised him so did St Johnston one club maybe but two., think we all know the answer bet he's not here next season!Jim wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 1:22 pmI think the pass sideways caught him unawares, plus possibly a bobble on the pitch too, so I would not pillory him too much for that. As for the defence you're right BUT we had a back 5 plus Williams was just about the sixth !

He looks poor to me . No aggression which is paramount for any defender especially at this level. Poor attempted header for the first goal . Looks weak and out of his depth .

Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers, match thread
Well beaten by a far superior side last night imho, their pressing gave us no time on the ball at all and we sat back and allowed them to come to us, clearly how Whing wants us to play! Saying that, if we'd tried a pressing game they had the quality to just play round us......tough one.
Can't legislate for individual mistakes and which of our defenders hasn't made a howler but agree with some about Farman, he seems totally devoid of confidence, about time Stanway was given a prolonged stint starting, even if he does make a couple of errors.
On to Newport, a point would be decent I think

Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers, match thread
But 32-mile did say and I quote "...nothing went wrong..." now I'm no expert but I would say something did go badly wrong somewhere for Donny's second goal! However, I totally agree that they were really impressive and already looking like a L1 side and the best I've seen at the SO Legal this season; good luck to them.mall wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 11:30 amSpot on-too much over analysis-beaten by a far, far better side and its as simple as that.32mile_cul-de-sac wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 10:22 am To many people trying to dissect what went wrong, nothing went wrong we were just beaten by a far better side who imo are certs for promotion. Aim this season is for safety and i think this team is good enough for that. Forget this one, Saturdays game is the biggy.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers, match thread
We should offer player's 1 year deals + 1 year options too many at league 2 level are taking the pis* going to be hundreds out of contract come end of June, Clubs are held to ransom by players/agents about time Clubs said enough is enough, we might lose out on a few player's but will soon sign when nobody wants them.
Re: Barrow v Doncaster Rovers, match thread
Some on here will say that we have been signing those sort of players alreadybehind the goals wrote: ↑Thu Jan 30, 2025 4:51 pm we might lose out on a few player's but will soon sign when nobody wants them.
