Goalkeeper situation.
Goalkeeper situation.
I have been one of Farmans biggest fans he’s been a class however this season his form has dropped off slightly.
Few questions:
Should Farman be dropped?
Do we see Farman sticking around next year?
Do we see Stanway as being number 1 keeper next season?
If we get into a position that we are safe with games to spare should we give Stanway the number 1 shirt in preparation for next season?

Stanway will eventually get the shirt, Farman is 36 in November might get another season out of him although his form has slightly dipped possibly due to his age don't think he is playing that bad to justify being dropped. If the board has told Whing they are not going to offer Farman a new deal then yes stick Stanway in provided we are safe.

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
He’s not been at his best this season and injury hasn’t helped, maybe he was rushed back but it’s not helped him. I don’t think he was at fault at all on Saturday though he was very exposed, and I would keep with him in for now. Still haven’t seen many better keepers at this level apart from Belshaw at Harrogate.
By all accounts he’s not staying next season and so once safe it would make sense to give Stanway a run of games again and prove his worth.

Yes to the second one, which will tell us the answer to the first one

And what if we get to safety fairly quickly but still have a chance of reaching play-offs...? Glass half full and all that.HenneysKnee wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 3:51 pmYes to the second one, which will tell us the answer to the first one
Don't let the old man in.

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
We have a hotch potch of a side atm. Some are legacy Wild players, some are Clemence era, some are Whing era and mainly loanees.
I do understand that Wood is the architect of all the squad signings but nevertheless it doesn’t help Whing when you have to hit the ground running with such a broad spectrum of players.
So Whings mandate is primary to get the club over the line asap. Subject to that objective being met, I think there will be a significant turnover at the end of the season.
I also think that there will be fact that we did not ship players in the Jan window was probably down to a process where the BoD had to choose whether to make a few quid or keep our best players to secure our place, knowing what that might mean. If so it was a good one as both Spence and Vassell have been on the scoresheet recently. But we are due a clear out.

In todays football world your highly unlikely to make a few quid selling your most saleable assets in January as those assets will have more than likely refused to go if asked. The players (and agents) know full well that they stand to gain much more financially by running down their contracts and moving on without a fee should they get an acceptable offer.Suffolk Blue wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 5:44 pm We have a hotch potch of a side atm. Re: Goalkeeper situation.
That’s a pretty valid point. Personally I think there were probably offers available for one or two of the squad. But they become less attractive to players if they know that they’ll be out of contract soon anyway.Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 6:15 pmIn todays football world your highly unlikely to make a few quid selling your most saleable assets in January as those assets will have more than likely refused to go if asked. Re: Goalkeeper situation.
I'm not convinced by Stanway as a first choice Football League keeper, but I agree that if the club knows Farman is going then giving him the matches to make his case is the best thing we can do
Re: Goalkeeper situation.
Farman has already been told he wont be offered a new deal past this season, rumour has it he was trying to get away in Jan but there was no suitors or no one he fancied
Ive never really rated Farman to be honest as people on here will know, but Wyll grew into the role while Farman was injured and i saw enough to believe he will be a decent no1 for years to come

Re: Goalkeeper situation.
Given his age he would probably have been more shocked if he was or is offered another contract for next season. Good league 2 keeper who has his flaws but that's reason he always played lower league football. Great keeper for Stanway to learn from in readiness for taking his opportunity that will come next season .beachy01 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 20, 2025 2:42 pm Farman has already been told he wont be offered a new deal past this season, rumour has it he was trying to get away in Jan but there was no suitors or no one he fancied

Noticed there’s a young keeper in the training vids. Must be on work experience
