Sounds a good signing to me; every successful team needs a midfielder who breaks up play and gives it to the better ball players

Let's hope he proves the Wigan Supporters wrong
When you look at there Wigan Forum listing players under contract and those released he gets a less than complimentary reviews .
71 games and 1 goal and no assists is not a inspiring record for a midfielder.
My fear is we are loosing players of calibre and will replace them with lesser players.
Good luck at Barrow and prove Wigan wrong
A bit of Googling brought up an article in Feb 2025 that said that Wigan were keen to strike a new deal to keep Smith. Described as "a manager's dream":

You don’t manage to get 70 plus appearances at league one by fluke. Not arsed about goals scored Campbell and Gotts hardly set the world alight in that sense, sounds like a good holding midfielder. Good signing

Oh dear Pedro you been on that negativity juice again πŸ˜‰
Scoring goals and assists isn’t his game. Breaking the game up winning the ball back and keeping it simple is his game. Wigan fans on twitter were complimentary and said he was a good signing for us at league two level
An example is the following. β€œ Very, very good league 2 player. Needs people around him that suit him but he'll work his arse off. Good luck.”
Comments like this are the norm for Pedro!

At 5'8" he could wear the same kit!

Sounds like a barrow player. Gives 100% every game loves a tackle/yellow card

Who would you have signed instead to replace Gotts?
I suspect if the new person was National League you'd be carping about their lack of EFL experience. I'm not sure the club can win.

Hopefully "Tom White" esq, but a bit better, could become a crowd favourite, good luck Scott

Hopefully much better. Came across as a really nice lad and very determined to succeed with us.

Aye but hopefully unlike Tom White when he gets the ball he goes forward with it instead of backwards like White always did πŸ˜‰

1st part of a midfield jigsaw
2nd or 3rd part I think?

Campbell replaced by MJ Williams
Gotts replaced by Smith
Spence replaced by Fletcher.

If Campbell or Spence stays then we've got competition for places. If not one or 2 more to come in.
