He also seems to go under the radar when it comes to the punters and rivals and yet his ppg since joining the club would have had us in the top half over an entire season.
If we are to have a season not fighting amongst the “also rans”, Andy Whing will be the reason why.
Bearing in mind when he came firstly he stopped the rot & with several games to go we were now safe so he experimented a fair bit, Yet his PPG were still strong.

Interesting season ahead when he can fully focus on what he wants us to do but starting from a level playing field.

So Whing was the product of a strategy that initially could not be implemented. He has never been seen other than by some members of this forum as just a “safe pair of hands”. That just happened to be available at the time. And, to be fair he has never looked like just a safe choice if by that you mean interim, temporary or will do until something better comes along.

His chatty down-to-earth avuncular style may fool some into thinking that he may lack a bit of depth but that is totally in contrast with his playing career. He was a very effective no nonsense player in his time. So the fact that he acquires players with a physical presence and wants to make the team a little “nastier” shouldn’t surprise anybody.

I’m surprised at the number of doubters that have emerged during the close season and can only put this down to the fact that those with rose tinted glasses every season are yet again being disappointed at the lack of “marquee” signings whatever they are.

All I will say is Evatt left and Wild was Mr Woods first choice. Wild left and we did not get Mr Woods first choice we got Clemence. Now his original first choice was available after the debacle with Clemence he has worked wonders. Maybe the doubters should cut Mr Wood some slack and just hope we keep getting his first choice!

I agree with the sentiment entirely. But let’s not imbue Ian Wood with powers that he probably didn’t have. Remember though his title was Sporting Director he was not a main Board Director until October 24 when he became CEO.

His role is one that tends to cop a lot of the criticism in any club and I often think is there partly to protect the main BoD. I am a great supporter of our owners and very thankful for their time and financial commitment. But that’s not to say that I think their thinking on management selections has been consistent or in any way perfect in the 5 years we’ve been back in the EFL. Invariably a poor choice has followed a good one.

This time I’m convinced they’ve made a good choice. And as under Wild, another good choice, we probably should accept that when players start to turn up that we’ve not previously seen or heard of, their true value may not be immediately visible.

We are Barrow. We dare not expect. But we can hope.

Exactly. Wood arrived and picked Wild

Once back in the EFL I think it’s fair to say our choices of managers were poor. Dunn, Jolley and cooper all failed in the role as the owners struggled to adjust to life in the EFL. Thankfully they appointed Iain Wood and he steadied the ship and appointed Wild and sorted out our training facilities and other offield facilities that benefit the playing staff. His knowledge and expertise has allowed us to grow and become an established league 2 club,

Don’t see the point in having two up and coming keepers in the team if we’ve got rid of Farman to further stanways development?

He doesn’t sound like he’s come here to play second fiddle!

If Stanway carries on the same upward trajectory as he showed in his second spell in the first part of next season he will quickly become a saleable asset in next Januarys window. We have failed to cash in on any players since our return to the EFL but Stanway could be the first and if so Winterbottom sounds like a great back up plan

I wished having the EuroMillions numbers was as predictable as the usual negative naysayers on here. We now have two young promising and dare I say marketable goalkeepers. They should be competitive enough to keep one another on their toes which can only be a good thing and breed confidence in the defence.
