If we get a good offer I’d take it ASAP.

Bristol Rovers have "walked away" from a deal to sign Barrow goalkeeper Wyll Stanway, and are "close" to making three signings, according to Steve Evans, as the end of the January transfer window looms large.

A potential new addition could be a new striker, with Evans telling local media on Thursday at The Quarters Training Facility that a "six-figure bid" has been made for a centre forward.

A rumour on social media has been Stanway, with Evans confirming after the game against MK Dons on Tuesday that "he’s getting competition coming in the next couple of days," when discussing the performance of Brad Young, who has come into the starting line-up for Luke Southwood in the last two matches.
When asked about the rumours linking Rovers with Stanway, the head coach said: "Well, we walked away from that negotiation through my choice. I'm still looking at one or two other options, but Will’s a fine young goalkeeper, who’s made remarkable progress, but you know, we're also looking at the form of Brad [Young], which has been very good since he's come in.
"I think really highly of him. I think he could perhaps go further in time, but he’s not ready for that yet. Of course, we've got Luke [Southwood], but we're still looking at perhaps another alternative, but we've walked away from the Stanway deal."

If a bid has been accepted - which I doubt - you can't then do a deal with another club.

A bid must of been accepted for the other party in this instance Bristol Rovers to have eventually walked away from a deal.

A club can accept as many bids as they like for a player

I realise that Adam, but IMO it's not morally correct - however this is the world of football, and as you say they can do what they want until a contract is signed.

Can't see anything to that effect on the club website.

Obviously. Club accepts bid then player/agent can sort wages before transfer is complete. I’d drop him for Saturday if he hasn’t already gone by then. Need players who are 100% committed to the cause 👍

Agreed but you can't blame an ambitious young player for wanting the chance to eventually get as high as he can, not to mention the rise in wages.

Just hope we get a decent sell-on clause.

No because it’s just rumour from those who like to think “they are in the know” Sounds like his agent is playing the game to try to talk his client up as agents do. Agents look after themselves first and foremost
Evans has form with agents and wouldn’t be happy if another clubs manager named a player of his that’s under contract like he has with Stanway. Any respectable manager would say it’s not fair to discuss any players with the press whilst they are under contract at another club but Evans never has or ever will be a respectable manager imo

The club accept the bid not the player. Why would that question his commitment. The fact a deal has not been done would surely show confidence in his commitment

See what Jeff has wrote above. Sometimes uve just got to accept that some people know more than others but if it doesnt fit your narrative you can just keep on coming up with the drivel above.

Club accepted the bid
