In a recent radio interview Hornby said that Wood’s workload was far too much and they were looking for a new DoF so Wood could concentrate on his other duties.MisterPleasant wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 7:29 pmThe way I understand it is that the DoF's main role is the budgets. negotiating, contracts and financial side, something which, given his background, Iain Wood would seem to be pretty well suited.blue nige wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 7:14 pm
That might be the official line! But why then would need a director of football? I remember speaking to Pete Wild when a game was cancelled and I asked how did we get Telfer and his reply was you tell me and just smiled!
I was told the other day that Whing wanted a winger from Solihull but was told he wasn't good enough for league 2 ! Jack Stevens ( Oldham)
But, I'll be the first to admit that your ear is a lot closer to the ground than mine.

Think the guys on the night shift made the right decision. Have you thawed out yet?blue nige wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 11:05 amHi Andy fellow Utd fan here so I don’t want to fall out with you!
About the attendance last night, at BAE they work shifts this week it was 6 days out of 7 so unless you took time off ( I did ) you're not going to holker street after finishing at 6.50, then you have the other shift in who'll start at 6.30 next day and there's night shift, yes I know these aren't cast iron excuses but ,it's on sky / dodgy stick, we've won once at home in 5 months and at times ( I'm a season ticket holder) even I've thought twice about going and last night it was really cold, I know you're frustrated but hand on heart I can't honestly blame people not going!
Do they want EFL I believe all most people want is a team that gives everything and actually looks organised and capable of winning, after last night the jury's out !, I'm sick of watching videos saying the lads care etc!
can Dino do it ,he deserves the freedom of Barrow if he does!
Re: Barrow v Harrogate Town match thread
I unfortunately agree. That and I do not think that this bunch has it in them both passion and skill wise. What I’d give for the effort of a Tom White or Josh Kay right now…mall wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 8:16 pm Apparently,Dino has succeeded everywhere he has been in rescuing clubs from the bottom.
Even though those clubs were struggling I'll bet they were able to deploy a proper back four for example and not have to rely on kids.
Even perceived at one point as no hopers Newport and Shrewsbury are capable of putting results together.
I'm not saying we won't win another game but, I think relegation is all but a certainty now.
I would honestly keep a maximum of 5 or 6 of this current squad, no matter whether we (somehow) stay up or not. For me, it’d be Stanway, Winterbottom, Fletcher, Whitfield, Rose and McCann.

Re: Barrow v Harrogate Town match thread
They were 1-0 up by then, and Harrogate very good at the dark arts, so no surprise they didn’t trouble us, as you’ll have seen.blue nige wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 3:43 pmNo we didn't we made the substitutions in the 40th minute that's no where near 75% !Hitthebar22 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 2:02 pm
We played with a back 4 for 75% of the game. After the first half subs.
So what's your point, Harrogate barely troubled us in the second half, but Dino had taken off Barkhuizen ( who can't play wingback but he's a natural winger ) so we were left with Mahoney and Gordon ( who I don't know where he was playing) but kept drifting out there ! and Newby out left!
Substitutions or not.
Not really making any specific point.
A general point however is that a lot of our players aren’t really that good.
I prefer to support rather than knock, but there’s no getting away from the fact that with some of them there is a lack of skill, athleticism and commitment.
Rarely do they play beyond their ability.
The manager has a job on his hands to get them fired up to do just that.

Re: Barrow v Harrogate Town match thread
I agree; if they were all fit I’d have MJ and Smith as the midfield 2 (I know MJ has said he wanted to be centre back this season but needs must) with Fletcher, McCann and Whitfield as the 3 behind Rose and suddenly that should be a competent league two team; but it would also mean moving to a back 4 and guess what lads….we don’t have a right back, still the most bizarre part of this season that we just outright refused to sign one, or a right wing back even in both windows

One day you'll take off those blue tinted glasses that constantly clouds your judgment!Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 9:46 pmOldham paid a large fee for Stevens that we couldn't afford and Whing and Craig Pead didn't want him. IIRC they intimated to supporters at a Q&A they didn't think he had the stamina to do a full season in league 2. Has had a few bad injuries one that required surgery since his move and only just got back to full fitness. I think Wilds smile when we initially got Telford and him saying "you tell me "was more about the surprise to him he choose us and nobody else took him rather than the conspiracy theory. Smokey Robinson is 86 today.
"Tracks of my Tears", "Tears of a Clown" etc etc.
Somebody is going to come on and say this is not AFC-related and belongs in the Off-Topic section.
Oh, I wouldn't be so sure about that . . . . . .

He also did The Agony and the Ecstasy. We have all been suffering the former, come season end let it be the latter.

Those who continue to obsess about Iain Wood - when not obsessing about a right back, why we don't know why Pete Wild left, how keen the Great Crested Newts will be to have their clay pit filled in and whether the uprated floodlights can really be seen from space (they can't; they shine downwards) - might consider buying the latest Give 'em Beans and read their excellent, extended interview with the man himself.
While recommending reading matter, a word of praise again for this month's The Bluebird which, as usual, contains the great A Foot in Both Camps articles by Phil Yelland on the month's opponents but, in particular, features good interviews with Captain Canavan and Dave Bayliss. (The latter describes Mick Harford as scary. Now, if Dave Bayliss describes someone as scary, he must have been truly terrifying...)

So you keep saying, but anyone who heard Paul Hornby's interview at the time would have come away with a different impression. You are entitled to your opinion, but that's all it is, not a fact, as you seem to imply!blue nige wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 7:56 pmA manager didn't put the NDA clause on it doesn't take Poirot to work out why this was done !Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed Feb 18, 2026 7:48 pm
It's subject to an NDA so nobody knows except the parties concerned. Judging how quick Pete Wilds solicitors were on the phone to Paul Hornby to remind him of the NDA after he spoke about it on Radio Cumbria I suspect the disclosure of that NDA by anyone involved would prove pretty costly![]()

You forgot to mention the natterjack toads which frequently rear their ugly heads when talk of a new development appears. Anyone know if there are any around the rezza?Hadrian wrote: ↑Thu Feb 19, 2026 3:14 pm Those who continue to obsess about Iain Wood - when not obsessing about a right back, why we don't know why Pete Wild left, how keen the Great Crested Newts will be to have their clay pit filled in and whether the uprated floodlights can really be seen from space (they can't; they shine downwards) - might consider buying the latest Give 'em Beans and read their excellent, extended interview with the man himself.

Re: Barrow v Harrogate Town match thread
If we’d signed Jack Stevens then played him at wing back it would have been utterly pointless anyway
