Don't know what to say another pathetic goal conceded! Never looked like scoring,we set up not to get beat and stood off far too much!
Bizarre substitutions Fletcher isn't fit, Smith on the right ( when Mahoney was playing well),Rose looked finished with 20 minutes to go why not put Malcolm on ??, Newby when he runs at players looks good but finishing and final ball leaves a lot to be desired!

2 games in 4 days and we make 1 forced change and he was crap ! Thats why hes been out of the team the kast 2 weeks. Shoupd have had fresh legs on from the start. Took too long to make subs and just looked knackered.
Rose should be shooting when he was 1 on 1 and it resulted in a bizarre pen or no pen situation.
Canavan and Stanway both had chances to just hoof the ball out and both made the wrong choice which lead to the goal. Its more a kick in the teeth when everyone around us loses, a point today would have been a massive boost to the confidence.

I know we conceded a howler but we really didn’t do anything to break them down defensively and apart from the one half chance that fell to Rose, we didn’t really trouble them at all. I know he’s been thrown into it (Foley) but we’ve got to win football matches and we didn’t do enough. Whitfield is one player who can run at defences but he only had 10 minutes plus injury time. I would have liked to have seen him and Malcolm come on as soon as we conceded and we should have gone for it. Instead we played the same game?? Where was that spark going to come from? A slap of reality today I’m afraid. We will need to be a lot better if we are going to give ourselves a chance

All the bottom five League Two teams lost today, effectively consolidating a relegation mini-league detached by six points from the rest of the table. All but Newport lost at home, with Tranmere Rovers on a similar run of bad form to Barrow up to our Bromley win.

Again the fine margins cost us, defensive indecision by Canavan and Stanway being pounced upon by goalscorer Berry just after the hour. However, in the 38th minute we had been denied a penalty when their goalkeeper Boot brought down Rose in the box, the referee judging that Boot had a hand on the ball. After we conceded, we seemed to lose momentum and shape, exacerbated by curious substitutions in the 82nd minute.

Chesterfield started brightly, Mandeville shooting wide from a Curtis cross five minutes in. However, Newby shot just over the bar in the 11th minute- but we could have done with testing Boot more as the game progressed.

The Spireites were forced into an early change, Dobra replacing an injured Stirk in the 16th minute. A minute later, Curtis was carded for a foul on Harper.

We kept Chesterfield out well and, on the half hour, Gordon was fouled by McFadzean. Mahoney’s free kick found Canavan whose header was aimed straight at Boot. Quick releases by Stanway were proving effective until the final balls into the box with no-one to meet crosses.

Rose finally got through to the box after a quick break in the 38th minute. He was brought down by Boot, but to loud protests by the crowd, the referee adjudged the goalkeeper to have had a hand on the ball, and then awarded a drop ball.

In the second minute of added time, McFadzean was booked by a foul on Newby. We had finished the half strongly but would lose momentum as the second half progressed.

Chesterfield replaced [SwearFilter] with Bonis at half-time. Two minutes in, Newby shot over the bar from a Rose cross. In the 55th minute we brought on Fletcher for Gordon; three minutes later Rose was booked for a foul on Dobra.

In the 62nd minute poor defensive decision-making cost Barrow. Canavan put Stanway under pressure with a poor pass and, instead of immediately clearing, our No.1 lost the ball, Berry firing in from the left. Canavan was also injured in the process and had to be replaced by McCann.

Initially we made efforts to equalize, McCann shooing wide from a Rose cross in the 68th minute.

However, a minute later, there was nearly a repeat of our earlier error when Shipley short-changed Stanway, but this time Stanway asserted himself strongly.

In the 72nd minute, as Chesterfield won a corner, Chesterfield replaced Mandeville and Curtis with Markanday and Donacien. Markanday’s corners tested our defence, his second resulting in a McFadzean header across goal, then a Swinkels header over the bar from close range.

So nearly 2-0 and we were beginning to run out of steam going forward too. In the 82nd minute Mahoney and Newby were replaced by Smith and Whitfield, while the Spireites brought on Duffy for Berry.

Many were questioning whether the correct Barrow players had been replaced and certainly we carried little threat for the remaining 15 minutes including added time.

In the 85th minute, Stanway saved another testing Markanday corner. Two minutes later a ball through by Markanday gave Bonis a chance on goal which was saved at point blank range by Stanway.

Stanway atoned for his earlier error there but, as Chesterfield had missed a sitter just over 10 minutes previous, and we looked increasingly toothless going forward- our narrow defeat was probably fair.

McCann was booked for a foul on Donacien in the 89th minute. Stanway made another save from Duffy in the first of six minutes of time added.

Attendance was 2,956 including 511 visiting fans.
