Whing was the reason we struggled so much for me I’m amazed anyone would have kept him. His signings were awful, his style well I’m still not sure what he was trying to do and he was playing people out of position. Rob Kelly papered over the cracks there and probably gave us false hope, without him Whing would’ve been gone sooner and in hindsight that would probably would have been better.
We could’ve appointed someone else sooner and given them the January transfer window to sort us out which I don’t think was too big a job. Macdonald then went and Gallagher took over which was a disaster as proven by his signings, and the. Maamria took over with no control over players and his ways didn't work - they’d evidently downed tools against Bristol Rovers.

After Hornby saying Whing lacked experience, to then appoint Gallagher and put Foley in charge beggars belief really. No one involved in football decisions over the last two year should be anywhere near the choosing of our next manager.

Andy Whing was sacked on December 10th.

There was time to give someone the January Transfer Window.

That ‘someone’ was Gallagher, inexperienced coach and only knew kids. Brought them in. They failed.

I think McDonald should have been given more time. Whing definitely had to go, he seemed more interested in avoiding defeat rather than trying to win matches. His comments following the first game at Chesterfield I thought were worrying and I genuinely felt the job was affecting his well being. He seemed to care too much rather than too little, if only the players had taken that attitude,

You could be right. The time he brought them all up to Holker Street on the Friday morning to train was the final straw for many.
Disgrace if that is the case

Players given a really easy ride this season strolling around in hats and coats in training, nobody would have kept this lot up

The fact they never came up to train at Holker street on a Friday morning again tells you everything and the Friday evening following the morning session at Holker street players were seen in Francesca’s with faces and the type of body language that would turn milk sour

Dino would have kept us up, just.

Should be given another go next season, after the cull of these wet wipes.

Don’t know why we got rid of McDonald to be honest - an experienced, older head who could’ve steadied the ship through ‘til summer. He’d have had the longest run at it, and the window to bring in some players.

After that, Dino; a proven escape artist. Okay, it wasn’t going brilliantly…but he was given, what, a month. Unfortunately, he was scuppered by not having the window and both, it seems, fell foul of player power.

Seems we kept chasing the ‘experienced man’ in the background (Kelly, Ireland, Coughlan all coming or being retained at various times to support less experienced heads), but didn’t want one in the hot seat.

I think we could have done with an experienced, older head in the boardroom too. Trans-Atlantic panic set in with the BoDs, next thing a bloke who was a good laugh at training gets the job for a week or two. No wonder the players were all over the shop most of the time. Ian Evatt would have had that squad well-drilled, fit, organised and in the playoffs.

Look at the Playing Squad 25/26 section on here- most of them will be back again!

"The time he brought them all up to Holker Street on the Friday morning to train was the final straw for many."

Ever since 'Main Stand Season Tct' mentioned this t'other week about bringing them all up on a Friday morning it has been at the back of my mind ever since.
I really think this 'final straw' needs sorting out, in terms of setting a precedent for next season because if it is something that could be used by the players as a bargaining chip or a stick to use against the incoming manager, whoever that may-be, then the law has to be laid down in no uncertain terms by the board.....................Any player, whoever that may be, who doesn't agree with what the new manager does or doesn't want do in terms of what's best for this club in its quest to push forward in the National League, will be out of the club. If the new manager wants you at H Street on a Friday morning, you get on with it.
Now I don't know if the contract of a player could be terminated if a particular player was a rebel but, one things for sure, these things such as that 'Friday morning' incident just don't happen on their own.
In future - if the club doesn't want a bad apple, then don't go to the barrel, go to the tree. As someone mentioned t'other day, young hungry players-some from lower leagues who will toe the line and want to progress.

The recruitment set the season up as a struggle from the start.

No right backs and an Evo Stick standard left back meant we were always going to be vulnerable down the flanks.

This got worse when Barrow tried to shoehorn well known wingers onto wing backs. It didn’t work the first time Barrow played it and it didn’t work the 35th time they played it. Sticking with 352 was another big factor in this disastrous season.

Appointing Steve Evans was a major missed opportunity. Giving him a transfer window could have seen an upturn in fortunes.

Instead the club went the cheap route by putting in dangerously inexperienced Gallagher in charge and by doing so they hired literally the worst manager in the clubs history adding greatly to this disastrous season at that point.

At the time giving Gallagher the transfer window to rush in and sign a load of kids was a huge red flag. Having relieved him of his duties in early Feb and the fixtures starting to evaporate.

The appointment of Maamria , 20 minutes after the announcement that Gallagher had left, was one last throw of the dice which simply had to work.

A drop zone specialist gave everyone a reason to believe. His tenure lasted just 28 days before he went almost secretly it was that quiet.

At this point inevitability had set in and appointing the players mate Foley had consigned everyone to the clubs fate. He wasn’t supposed to be in the position he was. The fans, the board and even he knew this.

The wins against Bromley and Oldham had offered immense hope but in reality Barrow lasted as long as they did on the back of other teams losing each week.

No no no Michael Jolly gets that award of the worst manager.

Will they though? Listening to this weeks Barrow social it appears the club put clauses in the players contracts stating that in the event of relegation the players wages would be cut for the remainder of their contract.
I suspect many will try to move on for undisclosed fees that’s if there are any takers for them

Jolley bagged a couple of wins during his short stint. 7 points from 8 games. Definitely not the worst.

Good post Hendoblue. That in particular is the nail on the head. If only!

We should just give them the option of free transfers if they agree to forgo any severance payment. Other than Whits, MJ and Newby I would be happy to see everyone else leave. Maybe Rose too.
