Memories of our win against Stalybridge

Post by Jonty » Thu May 21, 2026 11:49 pm

With our 125th Anniversary upon us, I found this complete coverage of the 2008 Blue Square North final v Stalybridge at the Pirelli. One of the highlights of our 125 years and in my top 5 games as a Barrow fan. What a night.
Just watching these highlights brings back so many great memories of this fantastic night for the club. What struck me more than anything was the total togetherness of Daz and Dave, that whole team, and the fans. You forget just what a tight knit bunch they were. You only have to watch the pre-game build up and the banter amongst the players on the bus. Total togetherness and feel good factor. There was no way we were losing that game.
Remember where we were when Daz and Dave took it on. And the joyful Brian Keen at the end, the man who spearheaded the saving of the club in 1999. A fantastic time to be a Barrow fan.

I really hope the positive from relegation is that we can come build and come back stronger, Adam Murray can help bring this back because somewhere in the promotion to the EFL, …we lost it. We lost the spirit that epitomises this great cub. If we can get that back again and we can hopefully have more nights like this.

Superb night that. Still can’t believe how many Barrovians turned up (despite what the official attendance might say….)

It was a fantastic, if not nervous night. I took a good friend of mine, Les Parrington who is sadly no longer with us. Fabulous atmosphere and met up with many people I hadn't seen for years. Happy days!

Incredible night. Some of my favourite Barrow AFC memories are from that 'Daz & Dave' era.

The FA Trophy Final win of 2010 being the best of the lot. What a day that was! :scarf:

No that was when Edmo took over the season after relegation from the conference

We were bottom of the table on Boxing Day - beat Workington 3-2 then went on an unbeaten run to finish mid table

Couldn't find match highlights of the away tie with Workington from that season, but this is footage of Gareth Arnison's winning penalty:

Highlights from the return match, on New Year's Day at Holker Street, are here:

Look at the pitch from back then, compared to now!!
