Don't know if this has been mentioned, and one for the older members, does anybody remember the trips over to the Isle of Man the football used to run on the boat from Cav dock around about the late 60s, it was a great family day out and the boat was rammed, I even remember the hover craft being used and one for memory lane, I remember the Barrow group Patents Pending playing on one trip.

I have just found this thread again. I went on one of the trips to the IoM. It was great fun and, as mentioned, the boat was full. I do remember that I nearly missed the boat home,as my girlfriend and I were at the far end of the promenade when the boat starting hooting, so we ran the length of the prom and scrambled aboard at the last minute.

The only things that ever departed from Cavendish Dock were barrage balloons, waterfowl and fish.

I think you are right, Mark. I think the steamer departed from a wooden jetty in the channel.

I don’t think the running of ferries from the Isle of Man to Barrow and visa versa was all that common in the 60’s/70’s and really unsure about for football friendlies tbh, there was the occasional running. They used to run Barrow to Fleetwood too mainly from the Belfast berth. Last known Isle of Man Ferry in Barrow to my knowledge was 1992 for the opening of the new dock gates for the latest submarine programme infact that may of been P&O on reflection.

50 years ago

MORE than 2,000 Furness trippers enjoyed a cruise to the Isle of Man which was organised by Barrow Round Table. Barrow group Chapter Five provided entertainment during the voyage on the ferry Snaefell.

FIVE finalists were chosen for the Miss Vickers, Barrow 1967, contest. They were Dorothy Laws, Susan Pycock, Madeline McCabe, Carol Wells and Susan Jeanette Allen.
