Well that’s it- thoughts ahead of the season

Post by Jonty » Sat Aug 01, 2026 7:09 pm

What’s yer thoughts ahead of season?
- Think we’ve strengthened well and hoping those who have stayed will go the extra yard for Murray.
- Do still have concerns about goals. Records show every season there is a 20+ goal scorer in this league and those teams are there or thereabouts at the end of it.
-Realistic aims: largely dependent on above but top 7 should be the aim.
- No easy games but bookies are usually on point when it comes to the likely challengers, so whoever takes most points off Carlisle, Southend, Hartlepool, Boreham Wood, Harrogate and FGR will be well up there. No doubt about it.
- Whatever happens- Up the F’in Barrow- Bring it ON
"To achieve anything and to get to the Football League, we have to expect to win every game. I've got to get everyone believing that we can, and I will work hard to embed that mentality into the players, the town, the board and whoever else” Ian Evatt.

First "friendly" for me today and I was impressed
An actual team, as opposed to a bunch of lads who looked like they only met up at two o'clock that day
Optimism high

Definitely optimistic but fully agree about the concerns regards the number of goals we might score! Murray has said, they have an option of a player who has become available ‘further up the pitch’ so it must be who will strengthen that area so 🤞. Really looking forward to next Saturday though based on pre season.

From the minute we actually got relegated we've made very few mistakes and Adam Murray is impressive.

I've been at most of them and am excited. That's a team.

But agree the attacking relationships need to develop and we need the one or two mentioned.

Just a thought.
Hartlepool play in light blue and white stripes.
Clash with our black and white?
Our second strip would clash even more.
Do we have a third strip?

Adam Murray talks the talk and pre season he is delivering.

The Mansfield result was first class ,Blackpool are having a stinking pre season some of their fans are already calling for Evatt head on the Forum.

Weve played two teams lesser opposition than what we will play this season and they kept us out apart from the last minute penalty yesterday.
It's going to be tough .

Cautiously optimistic but we are missing a goal scorer and a quality midfielder .

We need not to get beat at Hartlepool to put a marker down.

If we get a half decent forward and a midfielder who creates chances / dictates play ( easier said than done) then it's the playoffs, passion tackling, effort is 70 % of what's needed it's the extra 30 % needed easier said than done but I'm sort of optimistic 😉

Another thought, (and l have no evidence to back this up) we seemed to average attendances of 1500+ in our previous non-league residency yet from what I am hearing we have just about reached that in season ticket sales already*. So there will be a buzz about the place which will hopefully galvanise our new squad to compete vigorously and ultimately achieve our objective - the playoffs. If not sack the lot.

*Anyone got any current sales figures on this?

We need the Non League Messi - now more than ever.

Can't remember his name - Was is Jean-Paul Satre or something like that?

We had a quality midfielder on a 3 year contract but some idiot thought it was a good idea to let him leave last season and sign for a team who will be one of our biggest rivals this season. All because the player actually wanted to play something that resembled ‘football’ and not the shite our manager was happy to serve up.

Apparently Adam Murray has said, "they have an option of a player who has become available further up the pitch".
Well this is just 'my' logic but, why hasn't this player been picked up already by other clubs if he's good enough for Adam to go chasing after ??

Maybe it could be a player who has just been made available for loan?
