If the top corner of that Holker Street goal could speak it would probably say "nice, strike, son . . . but you would need to have been a good few yards further back to match Mickey Carroll's effort".
Conrad Phillips would have been impressed with the arrow-like accuracy though. Sweet as an apple.
Talking of goal-threat and willingness to shoot, we were woeful. We did have a few chances to get shots away but chose to either pass or take an extra (clumsy) touch and lose the opportunity.
Out on the road today I saw (no . . . not a Dead-Head sticker on a cadillac) a seagull chick hacking away pathetically at a very empty plastic drinks bottle. I thought "there's the definition of desperation". And then for reasons not known my mind switched instantly to our attempts at attacking yesterday.
Don't look back, you can never look back . . . I'm sure we don't want to, but yesterday was like freeze-frame from last season . . . defensive frailty and attacking impotence. And so, sticking with the musical theme, it's as Paul Simon said . . . "after changes upon changes we are more or less the same".
