Barrow v Hornchurch match thread
Re: Barrow v Hornchurch match thread
We have known for a few seasons we've no fire power.
Rather than get all the defenders in we should have signed a decent mid fielder and forward.
It was said we have aloy of big players at the back.
That second ball went over our players head.
Harrogate have started off trying to erase last seasons relegation .
We had a good pre season then flopped
Harrogate will expect to beat us let's start to win.

Barkhuizen will be happy sitting back each week and getting well payed for nothing. Surely it is up to the manager to swallow his pride and try to get him match fit and use him.
Re: Barrow v Hornchurch match thread
Don't know what has caused Barkhuizens' problem same as most people (perfect Barrow). However i remember when he first signed about his transfer from Morecambe to Preston. He had his contract mutually cancelled. Preston paid a small fee which he said was enough to pay wages to Morecambe players who hadn't been paid for months. Not the action of a man with problems. Anyone look on Google/You Tube he is miles ahead of anyone at the club on his CV. Surely Murray and him are grown-up enough to sit down and work it out, unless of course there is something no-one knows about holding things apart
Re: Barrow v Hornchurch match thread
Only two games in and we are going to get this right…..
We are actually on top in both games in attacking stats, possession, shots and corners. I know that might come as a surprise. Goals conceded have been our own undoing, defensive clearances putting the ball on a plate for a shot on goal. Both scored.
If we were getting totally schooled I’d be more concerned. BUT! Theres no getting away from it, we absolutely need to better at both ends.
Bring on Harrogate!

Don't boo them off!andyg wrote: ↑Mon Aug 17, 2026 1:09 pm Suffolk's comments made above should be read by all of us. We need to have a reality check and ask ourselves where we are how we got here and how do we move on and improve. There's a terrible amount of knee jerk reaction on here, some of it, not for the first time and probably not the last of it, that borders on, quite frankly, the obscene at times. It's the problem all forums for every club has to put up with in this age of "free speech" married to social media.
I've not been able to watch Barrow yet but have watched from afar on TV & I know its far better to be there but my observations so far are looking at a team/club still in shock from last years freefall & this is going to take time. Harrogate are top at present but they were never in freefall last season hence they've kept a number players from last season that so nearly fought their way out of relegation. We, as we all now, just capitulated. We also have history of this think 1969 through to 1972 & further dark years that followed in non league. We also have many examples of other clubs cascading down the pyramid. Think Scunthorpe , Morecambe even Carlisle. I realise the first two clubs where is an ownership/financial mess but a few years ago Grimsby got relegated to non league had a disastrous first half of the season sorted themselves out and got promoted via the play off back to the EFL. I would like to think we might be in that category but only time will tell.
What we have all got to do is stick with the team and put our trust in the manager and staff and not knee jerk into sacking him in November if we are still in a bad place as we we know from bitter experience that did not work last season. Yes I know I'm trying to put a positive outlook on this but whats the other option - total negativity? I'm a realist I'm not putting my head in the clouds thinking it will be all Ok. In fact I am concerned. But we need to roll our collective sleeves up (yes us and the team) try and grind out some points (not necessarily wins at first) and start getting some self belief. I wasn't convinced everything was rosy after a decent pre-season watching some of the highlights and reality has now hit us.
Finally, we as fans, many if not all long suffering ones, also need to get behind the team - yes vent you frustrations by all means but don't boo them off after a game if its all gone pear shaped. We all have to play our part to try and get Barrow through this dark period.
I've attended both games now and I'm already regretting buying a season ticket. I'm firmly in the: You pays your money and you're entitled to your opinion camp.
All is not lost though..If, big if mind, the penny finally drops with the manager that his...yes HIS recruitment has been questionable and his team selection abysmal so far. Then there are players in that squad who haven't featured, or only fleetingly if they have, who can turn things around for him.
Time to earn his keep.

A fit Rhys Healey would be fine for us.
Question is, how fit is he.
He's in the squad of free agents playing at Watford this afternoon.

Yeah, we wouldn't be able to afford him.Big_Bluebird wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 7:53 pmAre you on the wind upsaltcellar wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 7:13 pm A fit Rhys Healey would be fine for us.

Rhys Healey and Connor Mahoney scored today
Re: Barrow v Hornchurch match thread
Pay as you play deal might be worth a go given his injury history. Can’t see many clubs offering him a full deal unless there was a ‘get out’ clause.saltcellar wrote: ↑Tue Aug 18, 2026 7:13 pm A fit Rhys Healey would be fine for us.

Re: Barrow v Hornchurch match thread
I think his demands and bargaining power have reduced somewhat with the amount of injuries he’s had. Not sure id be looking though we need to learn from last season crocks aren’t the answer no matter what their ability. Healey has barely played in a year and I doubt now will ever play at a decent level again, he probably needs to consider something else now other than football.

Why don't we just form a chronic knee injury XI and have done with it?

The Club need "Someone" to pop down to training once or twice ( unannounced ) Monthly to observe & take stock of everything IMHO Just to be aware of any issues etcWalneyOne wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 12:19 pmDid he say things like " half the training equipment is broken" something PH was only made aware of after the season ended?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2026 11:57 am
I heard it said on more than one occasion he was running the club down to others and this got back to the owners
I distinctly remember him saying in one interview that it’s been difficult and the fans don’t know the circumstances at the club that make it difficult.
I’d add Harper, Earing, Smith, Jackson and Cameron to the list that should go. Only Marriot impresses me when he came on yesterday
As for PK he can defend but his ball control and passing was way of what’s required imo

Re: Barrow v Hornchurch match thread
And would this ‘someone’ be qualified to give a subjective opinion of what he sees?
A ridiculous notion, I’d be straight out the door if I felt I couldn’t be trusted.

It's a good idea. Maybe we could refer to such role as Head of Football Operations or similar.mickmike wilson wrote: ↑Wed Aug 19, 2026 9:53 pmThe Club need "Someone" to pop down to training once or twice ( unannounced ) Monthly to observe & take stock of everything IMHO Just to be aware of any issues etc
