Harrogate Town v Barrow match thread
Re: Harrogate Town v Barrow match thread
I just don’t get this thing about the style of play. Today was about getting something on the back of two defeats, against a team who have had two wins and scored eight goals? It was always going to be about rolling the sleeves up. Don’t be sucked into this narrative that we played some sort of rough house tactics and therefore stopped them playing some kind of slick passing game. He got his tactics and game plan spot on but above that but the team showed plenty of character and I thought it was a decent game. We need that spirit every game. Let’s hope it kick starts our season.

Should have had someone sent off for a straight foot challenge on Marcel
Nasty and from the sounds of my post match it’s done some damage
Re: Harrogate Town v Barrow match thread
Exactly. Their Coach in the pre match is talking about expecting a physical battle and a different type of game from their first two opening games. So he’s pre-empting a tough battle. That challenge on Marcel Oakley was a poor one and I hope he’s not out for too long.Adam29 wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2026 8:46 pmUltimately they are the ones whoJonty wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2026 8:40 pm I just don’t get this thing about the style of play. Where do I find the full post match interview with Murray by Adam

2 yellow cards for us, Williams and Murray, both for dissent.
Re: Harrogate Town v Barrow match thread
It was an awful challenge on Oakley that was ignored by the officials so can understand the remonstrations.

Win with style or win ugly.. a win is a win.bluessupporter wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2026 8:31 pmIdeal if we entertain AND win, but I think most would say that winning is the more important.behind the goals wrote: ↑Sat Aug 22, 2026 8:16 pm After 3 league games our style of play is dividing opinions some like it and some hate it while many probably couldn't care less, it's a results business but should football clubs always try to entertain whatever the final result, going to be an interesting season if we are winning but playing dreadful football will crowds increase or not.
But they are still getting used to each other as a group and there are signs they are getting better.
Just the way they battled together and fought as one, that's the sign of something decent. I do think there is more to come and I bloody hope I'm right.

Re: Harrogate Town v Barrow match thread
Well, 2 in 3 games makes him on target for 30 in 46 games …now wouldn’t that be wonderful! OK, it’s unlikely, but he took his goal well today and his celebration in front of the away fans was great, full of passion. To be honest, it felt like it was coming and we deserved it.
I thought Reid looked good when he came on, looks like he will score a few when fully fit.
It’s a bit hypocritical having Harrogate moaning about us being rough, they were no angels and that tackle on Oakley was a potential leg breaker. The ref was poor, he needed to be firmer earlier. I do worry that MJW will get sent off for silly wrestling.
We needed something from that game and I’m not too fussed that it was a scrappy game.

Re: Harrogate Town v Barrow match thread
Quite enjoyed today, the effort in comparison from last season is night and day.
It’s the National League, it’s shit football, Roll your sleeves up and have a go. Folk soiling themselves every time we’re not playing football like PSG need to get a grip, the entitlement is off the scale at times. The fight is there which is enough for now. Something to build on.

Just a footnote for some of the moaners we tend to get on this blog before the season has hardly begun. Our new goalkeeper who many fans were desperate to see him given a chance and showed a obvious dislike to Stanway even though many coaches in the lower leagues were keen to sign the latter at the end of the season. Our new keeper who so many were keen to see him introduced into the first team, in the first three games he been beaten twice at the near post. How long before the moaners start on this goalkeeper, stating, the near post being one of his week points.
