Replaced with a conference north player off the back of an ACL & a player Kidderminster sacked off after a few weeks this season.

Given all the talk of us wanting to push for the league / playoffs from Murray etc loaning Whitfield to a ‘ rival ‘ shows serious that is being taken.

Whitfield started 1 game , no wonder he wants out watching Walkers recent showings

Ben Whitfield joins the Wood

Boreham Wood Football Club are excited to announce the signing of Ben Whitfield, who joins the club on a short-term loan deal from Barrow AFC until mid-December.

Technically gifted and known for his pace and flair, ‘Tricky Ben’ has enjoyed a successful career spanning over 300 appearances across the EFL and National League.

Born in West Yorkshire, Whitfield learnt his trade in the academy system at Bradford City before joining Guiseley following his release from the Bantams.

His senior career began in January 2014 when he joined EFL Championship side AFC Bournemouth. Although he was unable to make the breakthrough at the Cherries, a series of loan spells provided the platform for Whitfield to establish himself in the senior game.

A particularly impressive spell at Kidderminster Harriers saw him score six goals in 29 appearances, with his performances earning him both the club’s Player of the Year and Supporters’ Player of the Year awards.

That form helped Whitfield earn a permanent move to Port Vale in 2018, before he made the switch to National League football with Torquay United. It was at Plainmoor where the winger enjoyed another standout period, once again picking up his club’s Player of the Year award.

Whitfield then continued his career in the National League with Stockport County before making the step back into the EFL with Barrow AFC. After a loan spell with Burton Albion, he has now made the move to Boreham Wood, bringing with him a wealth of experience and a reputation for creating chances and entertaining supporters.

Now, he’s ready for his next chapter at Meadow Park and can’t wait to get started.

“It’s great to be here. Speaking to the gaffer and having played against his teams, he’s someone I really want to work for. The intensity he works at is good for me as a player, can’t wait to work under him”, he said.

Manager Luke Garrard commented: “Really happy to get Ben signed, he is someone that over the years of me being a manager he’s been a constant thorn in our side with his trickery and qualities in the final third of the pitch.

He will add much needed competition on the top line and comes with a wealth of experience which will only aid us in the coming weeks.

He trained today and has settled in already which is a great indicator to the group we have in the building and the buy in he’s already shown at such an early stage.

I look forward to working with ‘whits’ and seeing him cultivate relationships in the coming days.”

Murray is going to live or die by his decisions.

He obviously likes physical players, the number of bookings shows they are poor.
Lucky not to get more.
To early to panic.
We also have to be realistic.
We spaffed money on bad players giving them to long a contract .

We've lost the major investor in the club and though he has not asked for the capital back he won't be putting more in.

We need Murray to turn this around and hopefully get a running the cup bringing much needed revenue.
Murray should not be slating his players he should be talking to them .

Tonight's a crucial one let's get back on track.

Dont really get the logic of leaving Kidderminster for a new challenge to just fill our squad full of his old players. There'd have been less expectation on him going up in to the national league as well

Our "style" of play was probably the main contributing factor in him wanting away and your right Boreham Woods style will probably suit him.

I think Ben Whitfield has been a great servant to Barrow but he's not the player he was, and I think people putting that down to our style of play are being generous because he's been a great servant. I wish him all the best with the rest of the career.

Not sure what you mean “our style” Whitfield used as a winger, or an attacking wide midfielder, get the ball out to Whiffield, play is direct, beating players coming inside / outside and putting balls into the box and scoring goals. I don’t know what about our style you suggest doesn’t suit his strengths? Our style should suit this type of player
