Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
Struggled in the first half against the wind and Winterbottom kept us level going into the break. Once we got the goal and the subs came on confidence grew, and we should've won by more.
Oakley was magnificent.

Oakley MOTM for me and Mooney looks a lively player who will get the ball, look up and quickly pick a pass from midfield. Those two the pick of the bunch in a hard fought victory. Great scenes at the end and a raucous show of support for the Manager.
We will foller the soccer, over land and sea...

Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
What a difference from Tuesday, second half we could have scored 4 ,hit the post, underside of the bar and Mooney missed a one on one !
Allen played well till he ran out of steam, subs looked decent Mooney if he stays fit will be great, Edwards looks good on the ball also Thompson did well actually thought he was unlucky not to start.
Yes a few hairy moments but Winterbottom and a fantastic tackle from Oakley saved us !
I'm certain that Harper would have come off but he scored as the subs were about to be made !
I'm really glad we won because the backlash would have been unbelievable!
People critise the crowd but everyone was right behind them encouraging them and you could see it lifted the players, we now need consistency but we've Southend next week who've spent big but we've done ok against the so called big teams but this league is insane and not much between most sides as we've witnessed!
Anyway can enjoy my tea tonight!
Murray never in doubt!

Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
We started off ok but let aldershot grow into the game and Winterbottom made a great save low down from a header.
They then went on to dominate the first half playing with the wind
Second half we played ok and at times especially when Mooney came on we played some good stuff
All in all for me we played better football today in the second half the we did in the 3:0 win against Sutton
Three much needed points on the back of a tough week and for me Harpers best game In a Barrow shirt topped off with a goal

Well that performance should silence the “worst Barrow team seen for years, change the manager ,change the board, bring back Pete Wild “brigade for five minutes.I know I have only seen home games but thought some of our new signings looked useful and liked that we didn’t sit back to defend the lead and brought more subs on which kept the impetus going.Well done Bluebirds.

Massive credit to winter bottom, some doubted him but again, he's shown he deserves that No1 spot.
Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
Agreed. A great save from point blank in the first half after a header was flicked on from a corner and he came out well for a one on one too before that.olbarrafancumbak wrote: ↑Sat Sep 19, 2026 6:17 pm Massive credit to winter bottom, some doubted him but again, he's shown he deserves that No1 spot.
Not sure why there’s so much criticism of him really he’s saved us on a few occasions.
Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
Totally forgettable first half. First 15 mins of the second half a little better inc getting the goal but it was the last half hour after the substitutions that has made me more hopeful going forward than I was before kick off. Mooney looked quality, Reid and Thompson did well but for me the lad Edwards looks some composed on the ball for 19 years old. Still early days and today was one half but maybe, just maybe this is the start of the Murray revolution he’s so confidently promised and that we’ve all been waiting for!

Played the conditions well first half (Oakley superb) then picked it up second half and did extremely well especially when the likes of Mooney etc came on
Might well lose next Saturday but the key will be if we back it up performance wise

Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
The first half was dominated by the wind, and players on both sides weren’t skilful enough to deal with it.
What I liked was the obvious determination to win the ball when out of possession. It’s a constant full on effort all over the pitch.
We were better with the wind in the second half, and still relentless in attempts to win the ball. Much better in possession, particularly after the substitutions, and some proper football broke out.
A deserved win.

Re: Barrow v Aldershot Town match thread
Murray said on RC that that was his first experience of the wind (blowing towards the Holker Street End as it does 9 times out of 10). He needs to be aware of this, as winter is coming and there'll be days like these . . . many more days like these.
So, yes, we struggled in the first half but hardly surprising given advantage of said wind. But the second half was as it should have been once we had the wind at our backs . . . and I mentioned to Pedro recently in a post that with conditions such as this we should face the wind in the first half and try to survive (which is what we did) and then blow the opposition away in the second half with the wind at our backs (which is kinda what we did, but the woodwork kept it closer than it should have been).
No complaints from here. We managed the conditions very well. Agree with what others have said about just how well Oakley played. Well played all, and once again no complaints about the level of commitment shown.
(Just as an aside – having mentioned the famed wind blowing towards the Holker Street End – I wonder if anybody on here remembers a match against Goole in late 1983 when it was blowing a hoolie and Goole attacked the Holker Street End and went in at half-time three goals up, only for Barrow to take advantage of the wind in the second half and run out 4-3 winners. An unforgettable match for anyone who witnessed it).

Yes I remember that remarkable game against Goole. Not sure the ball even went into the penalty area at the steelworks end every goal in the Holker street end it was some comeback
A Barry Diamond brace Keith Kennedy and Steve Brooks the scorers
