They didn't 'return the favour', as the game at Darlington was before the one at Holker Street. Boxing Day and New Year's Day IIRC.chris_roddie wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2026 6:03 pm I remember the Darlington game well. I think you are correct mate.Wintergreen wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2026 9:03 amIs that right? I remember the HSE without a roof but not the Pop Side. And as I remember it (recollections may vary) Darlington were allocated the whole HSE, travelling in numbers for potentially their ‘last game ever’ as they faced extinction. I was stood on the Pop Side and there were young Darlo lads going along the terraces there with collection buckets. Did I dream that? Anyone?Main Stand SeasonTct wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2026 5:58 pm We gave the popular side to Darlington fans one year when the popular side had no roof. It lashed it down for the entirety of the game
Was an incredible day with us all uniting for the same purpose and that banner on the pop side!! With out historical issues, we felt their pain and the fans I spoke to that day were blown away by our hospitality and kindness .

That's the trouble when you are behind a banner innit?

Did we not sign Charlie Butler (?) from them and he played for us on NYD?….something like that anyway!xerxes wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2026 9:57 amThey didn't 'return the favour', as the game at Darlington was before the one at Holker Street. He was quite a big name back then.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

Madness that some would even suggest giving it up! Thankfully those in charge are not that stupid.

In for Billingham Synthonia and had a big rep.
Didn’t quite reach the heights here.

Absolutely not! The ground is called Holker Street, for crying out loud, why would we give up the end of the ground that is synonymous. Terrible suggestion.

Why would we you (and others) are asking, so in mitigation here are some points for consideration:Beanmuncher wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2026 11:02 pm Absolutely not! - Surrendering the HSE has happened before - so it is not unprecedented
- 25% of the HSE is already under enemy occupation
- Plenty of noise is generated at away games – so it is not restricted solely to the HSE
- Generally, we would be talking about one maybe two afternoons per year
- Generally, we would be talking about something like £20k extra for the club per game

But how much of that 20k be lost to policing the extra fans?!

Where do you think the majority of those people who generate away atmosphere stand each week at home …Wintergreen wrote: ↑Fri Nov 06, 2026 10:04 amWhy would we you (and others) are asking, so in mitigation here are some points for consideration:Beanmuncher wrote: ↑Thu Nov 05, 2026 11:02 pm Absolutely not! On the point of it’s been done before , this was pre roof days (in recent years) when most did a half on there and a half on the Wilkie weather dependent, since the roof it’s felt more like a permanent spot for most.
In football terms - only Carlisle will sell that out in this current division, is it worth 20k when you add additional stewards , police and fall out with your fanbase.
We used to not really give a toss about the Papa Johns Cup games where we earned about 20 grand a season with decent results … 20 grand isn’t much in football
So is it worth it? Clearly not as the club have said no.
