Deasy or Tomlinson?
Re: Deasy or Tomlinson?
Two good keepers at this level whose competition for a starting place should be to our benefit. Tomlinson erred for the Chester goal but is still in credit for me.

Re: Deasy or Tomlinson?
i see alan martin isnt even getting a game at accrington lately..............this does surprise me as he was top top draw between the sticks!! on the thread subject id say tommo for his one on one shot stoppin he looks a mean [SwearFilter] as well which always helps as a goalie!!!
Re: Deasy or Tomlinson?
There is little to choose between them but you have to give Tomlinson credit for being between the sticks during a run of 3 wins and two draws, with only 3 conceded. I think if he hadn't (allegedly) made a mistake for the goal on saturday this question would not have been asked. I was impressed by the confidence he instilled in the Ebbsfleet game.

Deasy for me, but I'd much rather see Alan Martin between the sticks

Re: Deasy or Tomlinson?
This is a tough one. We have two very good goalkeepers in Deasy and Tomlinson. Tim for me is the better all-round goalie, but he's looking a bit porky at the moment, and could lose half a stone. Tommo has done pretty well for us overall, but he needs to improve his communication with the defenders (but I wouldn't want to be the one to have to tell him!) because there have been a few near-disasters at the back lately when there doesn't seem to have been a clear call between him and a defender. Tim always sounds more vocal and commanding in the area. Tommo's kicking and distribution is top-notch though. I'm struggling to seperate them to be honest, but Tommo has the shirt at the moment, so I'd keep it that way for now. Good thread.
Re: Deasy or Tomlinson?
Deasy is just a much better keeper than Tomlinson, how anyone can say otherwise is beyond me really. I'm never confident with Tomlinson in goals, every time a cross is played into our box my heart is in my mouth with him playing. Tomlinson is a half decent shot stopper but no better than Deasy in that respect, and Deasy's all round game is simply just better by quite a distance IMO.

best post on this thread so far! it confirms what i kind of said that neither deasy or tom are that good if you compare them to martinStu_Barrow_Afc wrote:Deasy for me, but I'd much rather see Alan Martin between the sticks

Tomlinson for me - came back well after his mistake against Chester - has a good attitude & belief -
Re: Deasy or Tomlinson?
Will Deasy never learn. One of the reasons he didn't progress at the league clubs he was at was his weight. It has happened more than once at Barrow and i understand he is carrying excess weight again.
A fit Deasy would be my first choice.

Deasy is by far better than Tomlinson. His shot stoping, catching, dealing with crosses, distribution is better with Tomlinson.I think his descision making may just be slightly better aswell.DaveP wrote:Will Deasy never learn. Sheffield United 'keeper William (Fatty) Foulkes weighed in at 24 stone at one stage. Mind you, it was a slightly different game over 100 years ago.DaveP wrote:Will Deasy never learn. One of the reasons he didn't progress at the league clubs he was at was his weight.

Re: Deasy or Tomlinson?
im guessing this is because frank fielding has returned to blackburn, off the leeds website- grayson is now weighing-up his options regarding short-term cover for akergren & higgs. he could possibly be sent out on loan in january with it just being a short term measure?sanddevil-temp wrote:Martin has been recalled by Leeds from Accrington. Didn't think it worthy of a new thread.
