17/18 VNL - Dover 1 - 1 Barrow
Re: Dover Athletic vs Barrow AFC match thread
White is a target man. He is the target for crosses and high balls - that's what he's been signed for, that's what he's in the team for, and that's what he does. In the three games I've seen, he has done a lot of battling that seems to have gone unnoticed, and he was getting himself in great positions against Woking, where some slightly more accurate heading would have seen him finish with five goals.
As target men go, he's been just fine.

Totally agree with this, White's an old fashioned target man, give him crosses to attack and get runners for any flick on's and he will turn out to be a good signing.Moribund wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 2:52 pm White is a target man. Re: Dover Athletic vs Barrow AFC match thread
Really good day out yesterday. Started with a speedy but cheap (£5 each way) trip on the Javelin down to Dover from St Pancras. A dozen or so exiles were then given a fabulous welcome in the Mash Tun micro pub and allowed to eat fish and chips from the chippy a few doors away. The landlord even organised us taxis to the ground.
Wasn't expecting much from the game after previous visits but we battled to a well deserved point and in the latter stages were the only team likely to win (a draw a fair reflection though). Moore was hardly troubled, Diarra again imperious as was Gomis. Harvey is proving me wrong this season and had another superb outing, this time as skipper. Audel was both good and bad but certainly looks more at home at right back and Nieskens much improved from Solihull. Great goal from White who didn't do a lot else but perhaps the biggest positive was Harry P who many of us judged MOTM for his tireless workrate and it was a bit of a shock when he was subbed off so I can only assume he had run out of steam.
Elsewhere the much maligned Hughes had possibly his best game for Barrow (maybe not saying an awful lot but he showed a lot of fight). Bauress looked a touch out of his depth at times but worked hard and delivered a pinpoint cross for the goal. Him and Jones also linked well on the left side throughout. Cockerline looks short of match fitness and confidence but my feeling is there is a player in there so he is worth persevering with. The biggest plus was the hard work, fight and team spirit this side showed. Asa Hall not missed at all and I wouldn't have him back in this team at present.
What was fabulous to see was the shared celebrations of players and fans following the goal and the acknowledgement at the end of the game, a far cry from the last two visits to Dover. It wasn't pretty football from either team but we more than held our own against a side who I am sure will be there and thereabouts again. Finished the day with a walk up on the cliffs, a last pint and a speedy return to Pancras and beyond.

I bet its a much reduced budget from last season.
To be honest I am not happy if its funded by the US tax payer.
Lets say if things were reversed.
A UK citizen can reduce his tax liabilty by investing in a a USA baseball club.
He walks into the city and says I am going to invest 1 Million Pound it actually costs him £555000 or alot lesss but things like the NHS and Education get less money is that right?
IF i want to spend money it should be mine and no tax offsets.People on PAYE do not have that luxury.
My company tried to reduce the National Insurance I paid through a tax loop hole.Unlike MPs I did not say I cannot do anything about it I actually made sure I paid the extra NI.
If you want services you have to pay for them.
I think Casson is finding the ownership of the club costly hence the sale of the best players and no expenditue in transfers, reduction in salarys hence Danny Livesey etc leaving.
The club is on life support.
Cox is good but not a Harry Houdini its about time Casson helped him if the tax calender is in the right phase.
Read a good article how another American at Aston Villa but granted he was a Millionaire sponsored Acorns , thats what money and football is all about!
So you realised Cuffy !!

Who cares Casson is keeping hold of the transfer money , cuts the deficit!whitty1969 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 7:10 am Even with a full squad to choose from a point at Dover would be excellent. Got to be happy with that.
More worrying is only naming 4 sub's. We really are thin on the ground right now.
Cockerline is not fit. RC said Hughes never looked fit and Bartram on the bench knackered? Only a couple of weeks in?
Where is Harry Enfield when you need him!

What a [SwearFilter] the owner is refusing to spend his money to keep Pedro happy. Fact is we have a team that is showing good promisePedro wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2017 1:05 amWho cares Casson is keeping hold of the transfer money , cuts the deficit!whitty1969 wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2017 7:10 am Even with a full squad to choose from a point at Dover would be excellent.
