Mike I wasn't on about effort it's whether they are good enough you can try really hard Bauress for example but he's just one of a few who really try but just aren't up to what we require !

Distinct lack of aggression and pressure on the ball.
Think you are right, but they were an excellent team. Baldy Whittaker was everywhere. They gave the ball to him a lot, and he was excellent with it - he played their fullback in for the first goal. Clement isn’t bad with the ball, but didn’t tackle anyone all game. Hall is out of position too much. Gomis was ok, but outplayed by Whittaker for ¾ of the game.
We do need 3 or 4 players to come in, if only to scrap our way out of the relegation places. Easier said than done to get suitable ones to come, unless the chairman gets his hand down (again) and makes an offer some can’t refuse.

They’ve assembled most of that team this season I believe and to me you wouldn’t think that from the way they play - yes I know we are well into season now but sometimes ours look like they’ve played together a couple of times
everyone is entitled to their opinion, deal with it

See what you are saying but the key to Macc doing well is a stable management system this season. We are on our fourth change (if you include Hornby's short time in charge) and this creates massive instability. Our players are now re adjusting to another new style of playing. Macc seem very comfortable with theirs for obvious reasons.

Spot on post

Stability in leadership is crucial in team performance, Dover Macclesfield and Wrexham all have managers who are backed by their board and have a sense of stability

It appears we are now on right track after an almighty upheaval in recent times.

New manager
New fitness coach
New player coach in Holt

Going in right direction with 3 good appointments so far.

Just need a leader/captain who can give it beans on the pitch and compliment the manager and boss the team!

Some players will react positively to a word of encouragement on the pitch, for others a verbal kick up the backside will work wonders.

It's the Captain's job to know which method will get the best out of each player.

Agreed but is also the job of the manager.

Absolutely. Out on the pitch, though, the captain (and Grant Holt if he's playing) are better placed to have a word with a player.

Hope to see our fitness improve with Lindsay Davis in post. Not saying we are in bad shape, but Macclesfield, as with many other teams that have come here down the years, (including Andy Pennocks FGR teams) have come here and seemed fitter than us, moved the ball forward with pace and breaking with pace. If we can get that into our set up we will put teams on the back foot. The side is crying out for pacey wide men.

As for tackling. You may not agree but I thought we missed Alex Ray Harvey's tenacious tackling on Saturday, We need that sort of combative midfielder and I don't think Clements is one to put the foot in.
Still searching for the Young Soul Rebels

It’s never as black & white as it may seem though Nige, Example, Hughesie has had his critics (& rightly so) As he seems to lack effort at times & recently when his feathers have been ruffled he (Suddenly) plays with a lot more effort & determination, To me that’s a big red flag as he has been allowed to play shed loads of games without showing the fire in his belly he is showing of late.

IMHO I would rather have a team that might lack the flair of some but fight for everything for 90 mins than have a flair team that plays whenever they fancy it, A side with shedloads of Fight, Passion & determination usually beat a team big time Charlie’s who lack the minerals.

Hughes always puts effort in, even when he was stuck out on the wing.
