Just what lad on the bus home said, he was behind the goals. Was a bit headless after the missed punch mind - loved teh quote from guy on the Quest highlights who said looked like Farman was trying to get his 10,000 steps in

Correct. If we beat Sutton at home and they lose at home to Salford we're safe!walneyroad wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:32 amIf we win and they lose on Saturday - job's done.Mark Johnson wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 9:08 am Would rather have a Salford goal than a pen + Brough red personally. Great point, shame we couldn't hang on for the win but we need to keep this intensity of play between now and last kick of the season and we'll be OK.
Oldham need 5 points from 3 games to overtake us, providing we lose all our games. Another win will in all likelihood be enough for us.

Re: Salford v Barrow match thread
Good result away against a team with a huge budget who would probably have expected to do a bit better than they have this season.
We must've been working on set plays a lot recently, another goal from one from Gordon off Rooneys delivery.
The second well taken by Holloway after a good run from Williams.
The first goal you can say is unfortunate for Salford and the second a bit messy, Farman came didn't get a great punch and Canavan maybe hindered him but diidn't have time to get out of the way. Whether it crossed the line or not hard to tell from the highlights but I'd be more worried why James Jones a 6'3/4 centre half was bullied so easily by Ian Henderson 5'8 when the ball was hooked back in for the goal, he has to win that header. Desire to win the ball in the air; that's what won the game against Forest Green and we were head and shoulders above them, here it has cost us but still a good point.
4 points from these last 2 games was probably unimaginable this time last week. Pleased to see the two strikers score they've taken some stick, some rightly so but some has been harsh. Gordon was a live wire early in the season and whilst not prolific he has scored some good goals. Holloway seems to be improving and although not the most mobile his hold up play and occupying defenders is important. He looked like he was just getting into his stride when he got that red card against Stevenage and it's taken him a few games to get going again.

What might PB bring to a DoF role that would improve on what he is presently bringing to that of manager?
Has he experience of working with a subordinate manager?

He seems to be winning round some of the doubters. He's certainly the best manager we've had for some time - and that's saying something.
The pre and post match interviews show a man who has confidence in his own abilities and he has already some of the players believing in themselves where their confidence had gone.
Can't see the point of having him as DOF - he is a manager, but he might know someone who might make a DOF to work with him.

It’s not a surprise that the Brown / Neil Macca combination is starting to work well. Both were key members of the Bolton coaching team from 2000-05 that saw consecutive top-eight Premier League finishes & qualification for Europe. These boys know what it takes to win football matches.walneyroad wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 7:21 pm He seems to be winning round some of the doubters. We just need Big Sam to arrive as DoF to complete the ‘dream team!’

This type of over reaction has caused us to be in our current merry go round of Managers.walneyroad wrote: ↑Tue Apr 19, 2022 7:21 pm He seems to be winning round some of the doubters. He's certainly the best manager we've had for some time - and that's saying something.
Look, I like Mr Brown, Talks up everything, Is doing well atm but that’s about it.
P5, W1, D1, L3
Hardly setting the world on fire & it’s wrong to look at his stats as he apparently inherited an unfit squad, Why was this allowed to happen should be a thread alone, Anyhow PB Is doing a grand job atm but you just can’t afford to offer him the gig on this alone.
It has to be thoroughly thought through & thought through again, Ask many League insiders about who’s who & who available & pick very very carefully.
Even then there’s no guarantees but it’s better to do weeks & weeks looking, sounding out, vetting, etc & hopefully this has been ongoing since it became apparent to the insiders that Blooper couldn’t care less after conning us like jolley & Dunn.

The best manager we’ve had for some time
Remember a chap called Mr Evatt?
Phil Brown has as many points in his first 5 games as Michael Jolley did

It's took him a few games which is fair enough but he has identified what our problems were and we are now scoring goals.
If he keeps us up, it's job done and it's as simple as that.
Been very impressed with the way we have played in the last 2 games.

I don’t think you’ll find anyone who disagrees with all of that & atm he’s going a grand job……Just don’t base the most important ever Managerial appointment on a new manager bounce type reaction.Mark Johnson wrote: ↑Wed Apr 20, 2022 12:38 pm It's took him a few games which is fair enough but he has identified what our problems were and we are now scoring goals.

I don't think he is Michael. And, HK said we have the same amount points as Jolley got after five games but, that's not taking into account the manner in which we got those points under Phil Brown.

Re: Salford v Barrow match thread
Plenty to do over the next four matches. Not over by any means, but obviously games are running out for everyone. Saturday is very important against a high flying Sutton. What happens to Stevenage and Oldham is very important too - Tranmere and Salford respectively. Both of them very much in the promotion battle still. Could be a pivotable Saturday.
I was wary of Brown when he first came, with too many vacuous words and attempts to ingratiate himself to the locality too quickly. I have warmed to him a great deal since. As he’s said we were unfortunate not to get something against Orient and Port Vale. The thrashing of FGR and a very good showing at Salford has given me a lot of hope of staying up. The team run more, with and without the ball, seem fitter, pass the ball quicker and it gets forward much more effectively and it’s not all hoofball, though a bit. The whole club has had a lift, so hats off for now Mr Brown, please keep it going!
