I couldn’t agree more. Tough act to follow and going to be tough finding a replacement investor something we couldn’t do in the EFL was attract a new investor into the club

Hopefully Paul Hornby will be asked it in the last part of his series of interviews with Adam. What I find strange is Tony Shearer’s resignation is the last part of the Chairman’s Update statement surely this is the biggest news to come out of the club in years. We’ve affectively lost our biggest stakeholder and it’s a throwaway line.

It is big news and a big blow to the club. Probably purposely put at the end of a statement full of positivity by design rather than a stand alone news update topic

It could be that Hornby may take up Shearer's financial contributions and effectively become the owner of the club.

We haven't lost our biggest stakeholder if you read the statement properly. He is just stepping down from the day to day running of the club

I wouldn't be surprised. Continuing to hand over the large sums of money as he has been since he became anowner and having no say on how its used and spent as your no longer a director does seem somewhat fanciful imo.

I may be wrong in my understanding but the Chairman's statement does not make it clear:

Finally, we would like to inform supporters that Director Tony Shearer has decided to step back from day-to-day involvement at the club as he wishes to spend more time with his family in retirement and will be resigning his position as a director. Tony will remain the major shareholder in the club. We would like to extend our greatest thanks to him for his support, efforts and wisdom over his time as a director.

Bankrolled most of the most successful times in 50 years. Thank you Tony for that- not many would pile in money into a small football club in a different continent where you can't control the day to day easily. Even your home town one.

My very limited understanding is he wanted the departure low key, hence the footnote.

Long term? When did we ever do long term, despite endless posts on here- including from me

1902-3 we nearly had to jack it in again. The ground wasn't right, crowds were down, attracting players.

The statement is very vague and supporters need clarification on where it leaves us financially

It just seems to be a bit of a blow coming at a time of renewed hope for the coming season - or is it as big a blow as some people are making it out to be, because I for one certainly didn't pick up any negativity as regards the future of the club from Paul's interview with Adam. !
