Nothing wrong with their last minute free kick. It's a clear foul by Jones IMO.

Fair point about last season. It is a league up. Wouldn't say it's a huge step up in standard, but it is a step up all the same.Big E wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 9:34 pm 1st goal today a player blocks our defence. If quigley makes that header we're praising his movement and clever play... Its not always a fault, just split second moments. The proof will be how quick we learn. Cant compare to last season, coming up against teams with a bit more nounce,. KTF
Letting in 2 very late and 2 stupid goals in 4 Games (3 at Home) turned 4 wins into 4 draws = 8 points lost.bigmac95 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 9:52 pm There comes a point when someone needs to stand up and be counted in this team. Too many mistakes, too many soft goals. We have a good team IMO, a manager who has improved and we should be on 6-9 points more than we are. Problem is, if we continue to concede silly goals late on we will be in trouble come May.
Must win on Tuesday.
100% agree with this.Matty wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 6:20 pm First of all, I'd be quite happy if we finish this year in 18th place, with a decent gap from the bottom two. I'm also by no means an advocate of making any drastic changes but there currently seems to be a general mindset of 'if we didn't make this mistake we'd be here' or 'good performance we just aren't getting the rub of the green.' Where's the line between bad luck and bad habits?
I'd personally like to hear more about what we're doing to improve our game management and how we will be rectifying our consistent mistakes.
Completely agree, Sam. Those 3 coming in will make a huge difference to the team. Jones will put much more pace and height into the defence, Hardcastle will put some ability to carry the ball forward and get around the pitch with pace into midfield and Kay gives the team more balance on the left side.SayitagainSam wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 6:46 pm Creditable performance against good opposition.
Once our injured/suspended players are back, I'd start James Jones for Sam Hird: Josh Kay for Kosian Nthle: Lewis Hardcastle for Harrison Biggins.
With this line-up we'd probably win most games, having watched 13 opponents so far, none of whom we need fear.
Disappointed with Biggins poor free kicks. Wasted. Always too high over the bar.
You MUST make the most of your free-kicks, especially just outside the box, and corners too, like FGR did today.
James and Quigley as starters should be set in stone as our main goal-scorers, with Kay, Barry and possibly Hardcastle as secondary potential goal contributors.
All others are cream on the top.
Agree that their first goal was shocking defending. We didn't even have a defender marking the near post at the edge of the 6 yard area which is something every team does automatically to cut out any corners hit at head height or lower. Their player who made the run had a completely empty space to run into even if he did finish it well.spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 6:39 pm As seems usual for us, a piece of bad play costs us....this time the shocking defending for their first goal. I can accept in the heat of the moment a daft foul at the end of a game but to leave a player with so much space and allow a team to score without a challenge going in is pretty bad going at any level.
The pluses are we seem to be improving generally, the football is looking better and we are scoring a few goals, we’re not being totally outclassed & we’re on a decent little run. We also have to remember that the last two games have been against two very decent teams...I think we’d have all been happy with two draws last Saturday morning.
Think my wife hit the nail on the head with...why do you all put yourself through this?
Because it would allow the team with the free kick to put bodies in front of the keeper making it more difficult for him. A player on the post would not have got to it, came off the bar, don't think we have a player that tall..Man and Boy wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 10:56 am I can never understand why when defending against free kicks from just outside the penalty area a player isn’t positioned on each post. Had there been a defender on Dixon’s right hand post for FGR’s 96th minute free kick yesterday there’s a good chance the ball would have been cleared and the match won.
Ian, always look on the bright side of life . . . . . at least she never hit your head with the nail with . . . why do you put ME through all this?spirit of 1990 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 21, 2020 6:39 pm Think my wife hit the nail on the head with...why do you all put yourself through this?
Maybe all our sharp intakes of breath sucked the ball into the net!Wintergreen wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 2:02 pm We all seem to be in agreement regarding both our steady progress to date and our shortfalls. Which is good I think as there was a lot of name-calling creeping in to the Forum narratives which I attributed to the Lockdown. Now I'm going to put the foot among the pigeons here when I suggest that when that free kick was awarded to FGR late on yesterday, every single one of us knew it was going in. Spooky or what?
Well I certainly did, because I had put the video on pause a few minutes earlier when I needed to visit the bathroom, but couldn't resist checking on Flashscore!Wintergreen wrote: ↑Sun Nov 22, 2020 2:02 pm when that free kick was awarded to FGR late on yesterday, every single one of us knew it was going in.
