I'm not sure that Bolton under the new owners are as skint as many of us thought, SB. They seem to think they already have a deal for Doyle the top scorer in the division with Swindon last season and also believe they are about to sign Sarcevic one of the outstanding players for Plymouth both players who could have played a division higher this season!
Its not really about whether Bolton (or lets be realistic) somebody who's an investor in Bolton can stump up the cash. We live in an era where somebody can usually stump up the cash irrespective of the true financial state of their club...until of course they wont or cant and that club goes pop or as in the case of Wigan gets shelved under "no longer considered viable at this time". There is no such thing as wealthy football clubs only wealthy individuals who choose to invest in them.
When I said "crazy" it was a simple suggestion based on the reality of a League Two football club committing that amount of money for what is ostensibly a non-league management team. Assuming a compensation fee of around say £200k and three year contracts for the management team which with pension contributions could easily amount to £150k per annum, that is a £650k commitment on your management team before you've actually spent a penny on the squad. If you put that scenario to say a German football official, he'd have you sectioned for even contemplating such a thing at such a low level.
The fact that Bolton is under a transfer embargo at the same time (which of course does not affect the amount of money they can waste on management) just makes the whole thing even more bizarre. And if I take your suggestion that both Doyle and Sarcevic are headed to the Macron, then they in turn will probably account for somewhere between a quarter and a third of Boltons entire allowed budget under embargo for next season. Which may still be a great investment unless either of both of them get a long term injury when the new season starts. But hell thats just a risk.
The older I get Russ the less I understand. I fear an approaching apocalypse for the EFL in particular.
