Despite missing the first 3 months or so Whitfield is our top scorer this season and was top of the assists table in L2 last year, at least for a while. One of our best players and he's worth at least 60 mins each week, I think.

[agree wit last comment.Am admirer of Whitfield but I don’t think has the stamina to 90 minutes at the pace he plays.Perhaps Pete wild encourages him to go all out hoping that by time he needs to come off ihe has already done the damage to oppodsition.quote=Moribund post_id=522646 time=1707225939 user_id=8623]

It does my head in somewhat that Ben Whitfield is nearly always either a sub or, if he does play, gets subbed off. I'm a Whitfield fan and for me he is one of the best footballers we have had here in many a long year. Even the seemingly very simple pass he played on Saturday to put in Stockton was perfectly timed and weighted and you just know a lot of players wouldn't have got that timing and that weight.
Whitfield tires badly when he starts, so is usually the obvious choice to get replaced around the hour mark. As good as he is, he’s most effective coming off the bench and running riot for half an hour or so.

Up to this point in the season there are probably half the team that are pushing for POTS - Whitfield has to be right in amongst the front runners. Always seems to be the player who makes you feel like something positive is about to happen.
We didn't underestimate them, we just didn't think they were that good.

During last weeks outing at Bolton in the Lancs Cup, Whitfield played virtually the entire game on a heavy pitch and then a further 30 at HS on Saturday. So I don’t think his fitness is an issue. Also he scored a couple at Bolton and was a constant threat in both games.

I think it may be simply down to PWs preferences as suggested above. Telford and Whitfield create different problems, and different attacking options especially with Stockton now. You could probably rotate them or even try and play them in the same 11. Whitfield has more pace though and PW seems to have concluded that his pace is better deployed against tiring legs.

In comparison with 12 months ago though our strike force looks light years ahead of where it was.

I think Wild and his assistants study the forthcoming opposition in great detail, and he chooses the starting eleven he thinks will be best to counteract their threat. If it needs tweaking as the match progresses he will use the subs he thinks are best. Sign of a good management team. Do your homework!

It's a strange one for me with Ben Whitfield. I think he's arguably our best attacking player, and certainly our top scorer.

BUT I love it when he's on the bench, just because I feel if we need something from the game, he can give you that more than anyone else.

It's almost like having an ace up your sleeve.

He's done very well to adapt to a more central forward role, rather than an out wide attacking player.

We need his contract extending ASAP.

Tbh we can all be guilty of that at times. It would be a boring old world if we were all the same. Keep doing what your doing S.B your material is ok by me👌
Thank you for your analysis of my character and intentions HTB. I dont believe we've ever met or corresponded. Yet you seem to have a problem not with my words but with me personally. TBH the comments you make above are far more judgemental than anything I've ever said and if nothing else that suggests that you are something of a hypocrite.

By all means criticise what I write on the forum based on whether you agree with it or not. Far from knowing more than anyone I am my own worst critic. But anything more than that please behave properly and message me as others do rather than airing your unfounded and unsubstantiated views on the forum.

A couple of years ago one of our forum members, Pedro, became almost demonised on this forum for nothing more than views that were not mainstream. It became so bad IMO that people began to question his character. To his immense credit he stuck with his views and has done to this day, like them or not.

Your comments above seem to be typical of the majority of your contributions to this forum. Taking someone else's comments and using them as a vehicle for your apparent wisdom. I'd love to have a proper debate with you regarding how your views might differ from mine but I have to say I dont find a great deal of insight into anything you write. You seem to focus on the opinions of others rather than put forward views of your own.

Apologies to other forum members. Shouldn't be using it for this. But if you put something into the public domain I think I'm due a right of reply.
Don't know ya and guess I never will but, just keep going SB. I find your posts quite rational and refreshing.

During the early days of the COVID pandemic when we were unsure of our promotion fate your posts were superb. The time and effort you put in researching the various mediums and assessing the likely outcomes provided great comfort to those with lesser knowledge of such things. The guy who came on radio Cumbria to assassinate our prospects of promotion and had us all nervous whereas your slant on things provided a much needed balanced view. In my world of isolation at that horrible time your posts were lifesavers to me and I think lots of other Bluebirds so a massive thanks from me. Once a Bluebird always a Bluebird 👍🏻

Many thanks Bafc2018. That seems light years ago. To my immense shame I remember posting about a thousand times that summer. Gained intimate acquaintance with the rules and regulations of the EFL (inadequate) and the National League (non-existent).

Didn’t really matter I suppose as most of us were confined to mooching about the house. Fertile ground for a newly retired barrack room lawyer.

But I can remember the moment we got our status back and immediately feeling massive relief rather than joy. COVID took that away from many of us too.
