Radio Carlisle next Season

As we are now under the county jurisdiction of Furness and Westmorland Council and local jurisdiction of Barrow Borough Council, the term 'Cumbria' is becoming rather anachronistic as time goes by. As an aside, older people sometimes say it states 'Lancashire' on their birth certificate - well check again. It doesn't say that on mine circa 1956 only stating 'Borough of Barrow-in-Furness'.

In Radio Cumbria’s defence they’re prepared to spend a small fortune on covering Barrow. I think there was 4 or 5 of them at the Chelsea game. Overnight stops, plus wages, it won’t be cheap. I’ve noticed that some southern BBC stations have a northern based reporter to cover some of their teams away matches. I guess this is to cut down on travelling costs but Cumbria don’t . Admittedly it’s sometimes a very hard listen - the most obvious - one of their reporters sounds as if she’s about 10 and talking to a group of primary school children. Then there’s the Workington lad who always sounds as if he’s reading from a piece of paper and can’t wait to finish. The Carlisle lot always talking as if they’re more important than the match they’re covering. And the worst I’ve ever heard was a report from a Penrith game a few months ago, it was truly dreadful, but I’m presuming the reporter must have won a competition or something to be allowed to go on air, which I guess is fair enough.Having said all of that at least we get full match coverage on the Radio ( if you have DAB or medium wave) they'll be a lot of EFL teams that probably have to provide their own. I suppose if Cumbria ever went off air that would be the option for the club. Didn’t Adam do something similar at the Kilmarnock friendly ?

And the coverage for Clubs in the lower pyramid is excellent especially when live commentary is available, Barrow get decent coverage.

Spot on. I doubt very many BBC Local Radio stations if any at all cover the lower pyramid teams in such depth like Radio Cumbria do.

I'm guessing you mean Soph Mason. I think she's pretty good and comes across as a bit of a character.

I have to agree Soph Mason has been an excellent addition to BBC Radio Cumbria Sport. She very knowledgeable on the game and that shows in both her match reporting and after match interviews.

It not gonna happen as has been stated on numerous occasions more Carlisle fans listen to the radio station than we do and even if their numbers drop off in national league will still exceed us with their larger fan base.

Just nitpicking but it's Westmorland & Furness. It seems to be that although it isn't a county and never was, 'Cumbria' is now being used as a county name more and more.

Many Barrow supporters don't like reading that and won't accept Carlisle are bigger and always will be, same boring posts about us not being in Cumbria.

It was spoke about on today’s post match show and negotiations have yet to take place with Carlisle United and BBCRC regarding next season and listening to what was said their does appear to be a degree of uncertainty regarding next seasons coverage.

I wouldn't be to sure about that. The hirearchy at Carlisle United are known to have been unhappy for some time with some of the comments about the club from Radio Cumbria. Add to that the city of Carlisle now has a very successful independent Radio station called CRFM and given that unlike the EFL full match commentary from the National League can be broadcast online the club might decide to use CRFM next season as an alternative to BBCRC.

So it will go to the highest bidder then - interesting. CRFM coverage would be full of adverts and lack the saturation level that we are treated to currently. So their supporters will be in the dark about soap supplies, lawn mowers, Lummie's holidays, whether Ted Lasso will replace Mark Hughes etc etc. Conversely it could be BBC Radio Barrow with updates on Kendal, Holker COB, Greengate Utd et al.
