Radio Carlisle next Season

Post by Pedro » Sat Apr 26, 2025 5:15 pm

Now we are the only league club in Cumbria I hope the amount of coverage news increases..
Carlisle going down will help the National League attendance.
Good luck for next season in your new league.
You should be a giant in that league.

Nothing will change. If you expect increased coverage for Barrow prepare to be disappointed

Radio programmes are judged by how many people listen. Carlisle have way way bigger fanbase than us so they will always command a greater share of the show. Giving more to us would see listener numbers drop off and risk the BBC cutting the show and that would then leave us (Barrow) with no Radio coverage at all.

Will remain the same level of coverage I would say. I hope they make a decent fist of next season don’t want to hear doom and glum every week waiting for Andy Whing to come on !

Firstly it's. public broadcast company.
We pay a license fee and this subsidise the Radio Station.
December 2023 showed the listening total as 85000.
The fact they have more supporters is irrelevant.
The statics are not broken down into towns.
They may get more supporters at the ground, but Barrow may have a higher listening numbers.
We had the argument that phone in the next week they did as piece on Jimmy glass.
Now we are a higher club I would want equal treatment.
The fact that they are in the National League and it can be listened to on Radio may see a increase in listening.
Commiseration to Carlisle but you should be back up quickly.

I can assure you Pedro Barrow AFC does not have higher listening numbers on Radio Cumbria than Carlisle United. We never have and never will. .

Who cares. Always been biased and always will be. If we all didn’t pay a licence fee and it was an independent radio station I could understand.
Hope they enjoy their salty tears in their beers tonight.

Like Sc’thorpe, York, Hartlepool, Rochdale, Oldham?

Non-league is brutal and unforgiving. If Carlisle approach next season like they did this one, then they won’t be seeing the football league for some time.

Barrow are in Westmorland & Furness while Carlisle reside in Cumberland now so not a chance of any change to RC's approach. Anyway not bothered as long as we continue to try and keep our EFL status. Absolutely sure Carlisle will do well in National League next year as long as they don't feel they are too good a club to be in that division. Took Barnet seven years to work that out.

Fan numbers or popularity of a club has no bearing on the licence fee.
The coverage should be balanced and shared equally across all communities in the county.
Unfortunately it currently is not and this needs to be rectified.
