Heard on the grapevine
Re: Heard on the grapevine
We are going part time and paying lower wages, in a less prestigious league with less prospect of being noticed by a big (Football League) club. Football league being the target for many of our players.
What part of this is so hard to understand? Imagine boss told you that you were going to be paid significantly less next year, meaning that you'd almost certainly have to find a second (likely unrelated) job which you don't enjoy as much as your current job: one which would make you tired for the job you actually enjoy and less likely to excel at it (ever tried playing a competitive football match after a 9-5:30?), while having to travel as far north as Whitehaven and as far south as Oxford on a tuesday night, likely working 3-5 days a week, plus Saturdays and several evenings....
Are you seriously telling me that you wouldn't at least look at and consider moving to a different employer who could offer you similar terms to what you're currently on, doing the job you love and with more chance of being noticed? You wouldn't tell your current employer "Thanks for the opportunity, but I have to look to my family and career and go elsewhere"?
I [SwearFilter] well would. And I doubt my boss, colleagues, family or any customers of my company would think any less of me for it.

People need to start thinking.

Didn't want to be the first to start the annual summer guessing game 'a friend of a friend of my next door neighbour heard etc'.but hey somebody has to. A Wukkie fan has posted on their forum that he's heard a rumour that Niall Cowperthwaite and Jordan Connerton are HS bound next season though its seems to be loosely based on the fact that neither of them turned up to the end-of -season presentation evening !

Not sure Connerton is conference north standard
Re: Heard on the grapevine
From last year's bottom 4 - Darlo and Kettering plunged into the abyss, Bath and Hayes are mid table or below. Relegated teams in previous years - Alty are in the playoffs, Worcester mid table, Eastbourne are just clear of the relegation spots in BSS. However, Welling - long since lost from the Conference - will be coming back. It takes time to rebuild for a promotion challengeBristolBluebird wrote:the top 8 is going for a play off scrap I don't think Barrow will get promoted straight away look at Altrincham for an example as well as Boston we could be in this league for a few years but like you said we should get a few more wins which should bring the fickle fans back should be interesting to see what odds the bookies give usdcarradus wrote:being realistic I think we will not find it easy in conf north but still think we will be in the top 8 we should be in the top 5 of attendences but like john said look at boston as an example they havnt found it easy anyhow we should win more than we lose which will be a first for years.

Unless your boss was Dave Bayliss he which case he would think you should be doing your job for the love of it, and then slag you off in public for actually having the audacity of being paid (late of course)audigex wrote:We are going part time and paying lower wages, in a less prestigious league with less prospect of being noticed by a big (Football League) club. Re: Heard on the grapevine
Talking to Bayliss on Saturday evening he seemed to imply that a number of players were on to the FA as soon as their wages didn't turn up on the day they were expected, even if the wages were only going to be a few days late.
I know that players have to pay bills but I got the impression that some players couldn't wait to report the club just for the sake of waiting a few days and this seems to be where Bayliss comments are coming from.

Thing is you've gotta remember bayliss isnt the "boss" in that its not down to him to pay the players.Three Lie Ins wrote:Unless your boss was Dave Bayliss he which case he would think you should be doing your job for the love of it, and then slag you off in public for actually having the audacity of being paid (late of course)
Hes between a rock and a hard place in it all, hes not getting paid properly yet hes got to put out a team of players who arent happy or getting paid properly and somehow balance the criticism and flak of the players that theyre not getting money, the fans that theyre not playing well and the board that results arent great all linked to each other really. And I think to be fair to him hes took it all on the chin and done it with a fair bit of dignity and respect in the main, when a number of managers would probably have just torn up their contracts and walked away.

Where Bayliss perhaps falls down is slagging players off in public. He's got a track record on this, not just to do with pay but also performance on the pitch. I can understand that at times he may feel let down by players but in my view he should deal with this privately. Slagging your team of in public (incidentally the team Bayliss picked, playing the way Bayliss commands, from players Bayliss signed) is not the best way to build Team spirit and loyalty. Slagging off your players in public is pretty damming evidence that Team spirit has broken down, everyone's in it for themselves, and looking to pass 'blame' on to others.

If any of the current players (bar possibly Boyes) think they will ever play in the Football League, then they are very, very deluded!audigex wrote:We are going part time and paying lower wages, in a less prestigious league with less prospect of being noticed by a big (Football League) club. And I'm probably never going to be CEO of Google... but that doesn't stop me trying to further my career with progressive steps, rather than taking backward ones if they can possibly be avoided.
As for the DB issue: I [SwearFilter] love the guy - he just needs to stop publicly slating his players.

Im still wondering who all these mercenary players are. Our downfall this season has been weve had too many players in and out of the door, most still in their teens. Sam Hibbert anyone?
Id love to see a full list of all the players who weve had this season, would make laughable reading.
