And don't forget Hartlepool. They were one of the clubs who voted us out of the Football League in '72.
Be nice to beat THEM at Holker Street and assist in sending them down!
Yep Len Ashurst was the Manager and he made the remarks complaing about the speedway around the tracks, probably quite correct but did not help our course at the time.

A lot of clubs did not want to come to Barrow.
If remember our goalkeeper had been injured and we asked to try and sign one but we were refused as the transfer deadline was in place ,at the same time Everton were allowed to sign a back up goalkeeper.

Nothing changes one rule for the poor another for the rich clubs

Just to clear up a few urban myths about Barrow being voted out of the league in 1972.

The voting system was that each full member of the Football League ( 44 clubs in Divs 1 and 2) had a vote each.

The associate members of the Football League ( 48 clubs in Divs 3 and 4 ) had a total of 10 votes between them.

In practice these 10 associate votes invariably were cast in favour of the bottom 4 teams on the grounds that it "could be us next time". This was certainly the case in 1972, and so it is unfair to say that Hartlepool voted against us. Because they didn't. They didn't have a separate vote, so although they had commented on the state of the Holker Street pitch, they supported the associate members 10 votes for the bottom 4 clubs.

It is also the case that it has been said that Barrow were voted out because teams didn't want to travel this far. But the clubs that were doing the travelling were the associate members who voted for Barrow to remain in the league.

The damage was done by the 44 votes of the Div 1 and 2 clubs. Although it was a secret ballot, the only club that openly said they had voted for Hereford was Newcastle United, who of course had been knocked out of the FA Cup by them , so creating the momentum that carried the vote in Hereford's favour.

And it's also worth pointing out that everybody involved in the voting in 1972 will probably no longer be involved with any of the clubs, or they're dead.

Good night.

You just can't release contracted players a former member of this forum.....you know that.
He signed most of our players on big money paying large signing on fees in the process. He leaves in August. What do you do....release all your contracted players and sign again...
Give over
No you can’t but you can transfer or loan them. Hence Yussuf to Solihull, Hughes to Guiseley.

How do you know the wages the players are on and how much the signing fees were? Care to share that info with us or are you just guessing?
And thats just it, he doesn't know-in fact he will know [SwearFilter] all. People like him like to pretend they are in the know but in reality he will know no more than any other jack s..t on this site.
