On the subject of Blackpool and goals scored against them I had to mention this. Alas, it wasn't scored by a Barrow player. So apologies for mentioning it in this thread.

It was scored by Sir Bobby Charlton. I had the good fortune to witness his skills a few times playing alongside Best, Law, Kidd, Paddy Crerand, etc etc at Old Trafford - whilst stood on The Stretford End - as a kid.. However, my fave memory of him is when United played at Bloomfield Road, Blackpool in the early 70s. I was aged about 10/11 at the time.

He scored a goal - which in my opinion - was the greatest ever seen on a football pitch! Forget Ronaldo, Cantona, Mbappé, Messi, Neymar and others. This goal was other worldly!

Bobby collected a pass from George Best. He then placed his foot under the ball and lifted the ball into the air - so the ball was hovering in the air. When it came down he struck it ferociously from inside his own half. It hit the back of the net with such speed and power that everyone heard the netting being stretched. The goalie just stood and stared. Pure Magic!

Then the Referee, whistled; held up his hand – and disallowed the goal! I don’t know whether it was for a slight handball by Best or Bobby. It certainly couldn’t have been for offside because United’s players were all stood in their own half of the field.

As far as I know there is no video recording of that goal. And there were no highlights shown on TV. Some will argue that because it was disallowed - it wasn’t a goal. Whatever. They weren’t there that day It WAS the greatest goal – in my opinion – ever scored. And I feel privileged to have witnessed it.
