So the facts so far - some person who is new to the forum writes a message and everyone takes all the facts as gospel. Then we hear that a coach of the Under 16s ? has also posted a series of tweets. If the coach is employed by the club, I would say he's not being very professional by airing his grievances on a public platform. And if the U18 Academy isn't running next season at least the lads have got until September to sort something out. I'm presuming the next academic year starts in September.

I wonder if this decision to put it back is a direct consequence of us not knowing our fate until recently & if we were safe (( I bet the bod thought a top 10 budget & Copper at the helm, That we’d be safe way earlier )) means there’s no time to fully focus on this & do it justice by doing it right.

Remember we still have important improvements to the ground to be made as the FA insist & the bod would not have anticipated binning Coops & looking for a new Gaffer, It’s all very unfortunate but it is what it is, Could & should it have been handled better, 100% but we wouldn’t need an Academy if we get relegated….& we all know the 2 coming up will be very strong & nowhere near relegation so this L2 is slowly getting harder as the badly ran clubs or heavily in debt clubs sink…Maximising our chances of survival outweighs any Academy in my book….Who’d run a football club eh.

I wasn't going to post again but thought i might as well.

Having read all the comments its good to see all the people care passionately about their home town football club i once did.
The comment where i am a paid member off staff is absolute garbage i am volunteer who has helped with the U16s this season. So to say i am unproffesional posting on here is wrong i can post what i like and everything is the truth as i have put it.
If the club had come out and told these lads when they knew many weeks ago now i have been informed there wouldn't be a issue , yep the lads, parents & coaches would of been upset but thats the ruthless world of football. When you here things today it was talked about on the Liverpool supporters bus, amoung staff at Barrow AFC weeks ago why did these know before the people who should of found out first, no EMPATHY whatsoever from Barrow.
I read a post early which was posted many years ago regarding local players and i totally agree with it why can't they make it , just because of our position in the country is irrelevant. Don't forget there was also lads coming from away to form this. But my gut feeling now is we will never see anyone coming through the ranks.
If it was finances tell us i get that surviving in League 2 is important, if it was something else tell us, just give us a bloody reason. Don't just brush it under the carpet which will probably happen. My guess is they are embarrased to say what the reason is as it will show how unproffesional Barrow AFC are.
These lads & parents still haven't had anything offical from the club, surely everyone on here can agree with me that this is wrong !!!
What i will say it is good to see everyones opinions on here thats the magic of football not everyone agrees and causes great debates which this subject seems to have.

I'm sure the club will set out it's vision for the future. But our infrastructure is probably worse than clubs in the north west counties or so it seems to me.

Shame for the lads that the club won't officially have an academy but dont forget they already have this, without the official EFL academy title. Im sure there have been a number of lads who have been in our "non-academy" that have gone on to professional clubs in recent years, one who went to blackburn, i forget his name. Just because some people are upset rheir kids havent been given a YT, more thsn likely only to be released in 2 years as the manager doesnt deem them up to football league standard, it shouldn't be forgotten how much the "non-academy" has done for local junior football in the town, and I'm sure those running it will be looking at how they can continue with those kids at U18 level, whether that be next season or further down the line.
Morecambe were a football league club for many years before their academt got the official EFL status. Im.sure it was pulled for the best reasons and will no doubt happen in the near future.
There are lads in the area who will.be good enoigh to make it, who cares if they've not come through our EFL academy?

Im sorry but that's a very short sighted post. An Academy can unearth a gem who in turn can earn a club like Barrow a small fortune. Ollie Watkins came through Exeters academy sold to Brentford who in turn sold him to Villa. Initially sold for £1,8 million his move from Brenrford to Villa has earned Exeter a further £750,000. I am sure there are many more examples. Cumbrian Dean Henderson if he moves from United in the summer will bag Carlisle 15% of his fee. That could earn them a few million. Carlisle have a similar sell on clause if Jarrard Branthwaite is sold by Everton. He was recently linked to Man Utd.

I understand the huge financial benefits that things like that could bring, what i meant was if people are wanting kids from the area to make it does it matter if its with us or not, with us not yet having an academy. If we did then of course I'd want the club to be getting the financial benefit from it

Speaking this morning to a colleague about this who has a kid playing at a different academy. Other clubs have proper academies and some top level coaches who have played at a good level, the kids there join at a young age and play against other professional clubs throughout the ages. By the time they leave school the clubs know whether they are ready for a scholarship. The Barrow model seemed to hinge on having an under 18 squad made up of grassroots players and players that had been released by other academies, coached by a group of mates who don’t have a great deal of experience in professional football. That model os unlikely to yield first team football league players.

As was mentioned with the CEO position, something like this needs knowledge and expertise - which costs money and that seems to be where our problems lie.

It's one turn of phrase that makes my skin crawl. "If they make it" so if I child 'doesn't make it' have they failed? One thing you hear pretty much every professional footballer say is that they miss playing football before it became a job. The kids at the youth set up are there to develop into the best player they can be. Not to be told their not good enough or they won't make it. I'm sure if the U16s who have been released will find other clubs to play for. Whether that be at Furness Rovers or Blackburn Rovers.

A good numbet of the coaches have their UEFA B, which is the minimum needed for EFL academies, i know alot of coaches who are in carlisles academy dont yet have this qualification. It doesn't matter if they've been ex-pro or not, theyre decent coaches to have that award. So will be able to deliver session to improve the players.
