New to the site so pardon the long post.

I have been helping out with Barrow U16s this season , a load of work has gone on behind the scences in preperation for the academy. Stuff like admin side, playing matches at hawcoat park this season, travelling all round the north west for games, sorting the education out with furness academy , now to be told this week the academy is not going to happen. Lads have had verbal offers a carrot dangled in front of them , kids from away who have turned other academies as they thought Barrow's was the best set up and a few local lads have been offered. Now to be told the week before they start GCSE's that its not happening what a absolute disgrace from Barrow AFC hang your head in shame. Talk about messing with kids heads some of these lads are in ruins now.
The best of it was the club were just going to send emails out informing the kids of the academy not happening, what a spineless thing to do , shouldn't they do it face to face.
So all this year all the work certain staff have put in has all been a waste of time.

Phil Brown come in saying he wanted ambition is an academy not part of that ambition ??? No wonder no local footballers like Barrow afc there is no chance anyone from the youth is ever going to get in that team or even get a sniff. I for one will never step foot in that ground again the way these kids have been treated.
So Barrow people wake up there has never been a better chance for this town re academy , what a tin pot outfit you really are BARROW AFC

PS i would really like a answer off anyone with a set off b...s from Barrow AFC the reason they have pulled the plug as it can't be money as the efl fund a lot of it. Bear this in mind when reading this post i think Barrow AFC will be the only league 2 club which will spend the third year in league 2 and not even set up and academy a absolute lack of ambition.

The club throw down our throat club of the community what a load of rubbish this proves they have no intention of being any club of this community.
I hope the local Barrow people see whats going on here !!!!!! are there any football people running that club !!!!

Also to add to this , having worked with the peformance staff this year i can't fault there efforts. THe amount of work that these lads do behind the scences goes unoticed i just wish the club could of seen this

You won’t get an answer off the club on here tbh, you’d have to ask them directly
(FWIW I agree we should have an academy set up, and even more so when Brown takes over and says he’s moving training to Barrow)

Thanks for the reply, your right do they ever reply to anyone.
The biggest issue with me is telling them the week before they start there exams !!! the club of the community !!!!

Reply to the academy as a whole they will probably put a statement out saying it’s been deferred, when till ? next year we have no current u15s they have folded. So no one coming through locally.
Maybe ask the board as of the end of March everything was going ahead so what has changed from then.

I've heard the process in getting a fully fledged 'Academy' is alot of hoop jumping and a long application process. Personally we've not heard anything from the academy team but I expect no changes to the younger groups and maybe for the U16s it's just not come at the right time. Whatever the outcome the staff who train the kids are brilliant and I hope the younger ones continue to receive the top class coaching and maybe the club will get academy status in the next couple of seasons.

Whilst it is sad but if the lads are good another club will have them. My guess is 99.9% won’t be up to it though as a Barrow academy based on local players will never supply many or even any regular 1st team players as the talent is not here. Sorry for sounding harsh but having seen the quality around the lads are better off pursuing a career in the yard or further education than relying on a 4th tier academy.
