Shocking
Lost 1-0 to a rag tag bunch of locals,no chances created and lucky not to lose by more very worrying signs.

Re: Shocking
How many of these TRIALISTS are actually signed up,let's not over reacted yeah they weren't very good but they are not on contracts for next season if they were I would see your point.Van Der Nipper wrote:Lost 1-0 to a rag tag bunch of locals,no chances created and lucky not to lose by more very worrying signs.
I also think its abit harsh on the local lads calling them rag tag they played well.
Re: Shocking
The only players that impressed me were from the Furness XI - Hubbold, Heywood & Shields all had very good games.
Regards Barrow players, Bowen & Meechan were decent first half but drifted off second half. Eddy, solid as you'd expect. Out of all the trialists, I'd probably give Parkinson another look at, the rest can pack their bags.
Good to be back at Holker Street though, nice to be in the sun.

Wasn't at the game today so can't comment on individual/collective displays. However to equate todays game with future prospects is absolute nonsense. We have had one training session and half the team had probably never met the others before kick-off. If we'd won 6-0 would people be spouting 'champions'. It was (as are all pre-season friendlies) a glorified training session aimed at getting players match-fit and ready to hit the ground running.

Re: Shocking
If the locals are rag tag, what were we? It wasn't even a case of the locals just wanting it more, they looked fitter, more skilful and more organised. Who or what are these players trialled on the basis of, someone's say so, rumours, there own contact? On that performance, we'd be better looking closer to home. Lets hope we are better in the next few weeks otherwise we are in for a long season.
Of the locals, I agree that Hubbold in particular looked good and put some great crosses in, also Lavery the keeper was solid throughout and Chubb who scored the goal looked dangerous in the 2nd half. I'm not saying they are BSN standard but they were better today than the majority of triallists on show. Well done also to Tony Callister and Jon Balm on giving the young lads the opportunity rather than picking the same old faces from the past few years.

Re: Shocking
How often do you think these local lads have trained together? They are lucky if they train through the season never mind off season. Any player aspiring to play at BSN level should be keeping themselves fit throughout the off season, never mind they've only had one session together, they should be fitter and more skilful than any west lancs player at any point - today they weren't. Players out there today should have been busting a guy for contracts - I didn't see that, what I did see was reminiscent of last seasons poor attitude.SKIPPER wrote:Wasn't at the game today so can't comment on individual/collective displays. Re: Shocking
Oh dear- well we'll see a lot on trial who won't be back. Maybe one or two of the Furness select players csught the eye of Bayliss and can get a chance for a trial in the remaining friendlies.
What about the players who we have signed up- Ie Shelton Payne, Arnison and The big lad up front? How did they do
Was there many there today?

Some still on holiday Jonty. Not worried at all by today's result
Re: Shocking
I would still like to see a couple of the ones who had good games against Conference and Evostick opposition...ie in the next 2 games.
The game today, aswell as a fundraiser surely worth looking at these lads in a Barrow shirt to maybe open a few doors for local lads and see if they can step up to the plate....surely this must be the aim......I,ll be disappointed when I go to Kendal Saturday and not see one of these get 30 mins at least or are we still having to build bridges with local clubs????

Re: Shocking
Well, where do I start? I thought the Furness Select XI played wonderfully well, you can't take anything from them at all. Of course I have to have a bit of a boast as it was my son Jordan Chubb that scored the winning goal (I taught him that!!!!!).
I thought a few of the Barrow lads looked okay, Eddy was good, as he should be, Moyo was okay at best, Meeks did well, keeper looked comfortable enough. Not the best showing but it's about fitness at this stage.
The FSXI didn't get an opportunity to train together, but they all do train with their respective clubs, and they do train well. I thought they looked great, hard to tell which was the semi pro team today. And of course did I mention my son got the winning goal?
