Losing 1-0 at half time. Absolutely lashed it down for first 15 mins.

Sack everyone. Oh, have the shirts arrived.
Re: Lancaster tonight..??
Had a little drive out to this one tonight.
I don't know if the team was much different to the team that supposedly did so well on Saturday but I wasn't impressed.
We had plenty of the ball but our final ball and decision making in the final third was poor.
Still a couple of weeks to go before the serious business starts but based on the two games I've seen so far this pre-season, we'll do well to be a top 8 side.

Re: Lancaster tonight..??
I was there too tonight and agree with Reg's post.
The first 15 mins of the match was a non-event due to a crazy armageddon-like electrical storm monsoon moment! Once the downpour stopped an 11 featuring most of the players signed to-date dominated first half possession without ever looking like having the nous to unlock the Lancaster defence. Shelton Payne came closest with a clever 25 yard free-kick where he gave the keeper the 'eye' and appeared to be aiming to float the ball into the left hand corner of the six yard box but instead fired a shot towards the right corner of the goal. The home keeper scrambled across to save at full stretch. Hulbert looked lively and was constantly encouraging the players around him with his infectious enthusiasm. Williams looked commanding at the back and Moyo still shows signs of having the makings of becoming a class act. The big striker Bowen is a beast in the air but, perhaps due in part to the wet surface, his touch looked heavy on this showing.
The second half was a non-event due to 7 or 8 of our starting 11 being replaced by trialists. By the end of the match the whole starting 11 had been taken off. I guess some of these lads had never met each other before - and it showed in their inability to string more than a couple of passes together! Meechan looked sharp though when he came on with 15 to go...

Re: Lancaster tonight..??
Was at both Lancaster and Accrington games, and the contrast was massive. The teams were changed a fair bit, but that still didn't account for a very poor display from what was mostly a line-up of contracted players.
McMillan's fine, the back four were poor; Moyo hasn't the first clue about being a centre back, so that's got to be the priority (any idea if Reynolds is likely to sign because he wasn't there?), and the left-back trialist was crap. Williams isn't the most mobile either.
In midfield, Hulbert and Lacey should be fine - though A LOT of bookings are coming their way this season the way they both dive in - and the wingers will do for the season kick-off, but probably won't last.
Up-front, Arnison's barely had a sniff in either game, so hard to say. Could be poor service, or maybe needs to work harder. Bowen is my big bone of contention: for someone so big, he's often beaten in the air and can't hold up a ball! His footwork's not so great either, so he's not exactly impressed me so far.
Of the subs, mostly trialists, not one stood out. Wynn tried and looked okay, but the number 21 was woeful, the left-winger similar, Swarbrick looked out of his depth, and the number 17 (Saul?) up front looked as though he was seeing a football for the first time. Though his handball 'goal' was one of the most hilarious things ever seen on a football pitch!
Not as optimistic as after Saturday, though these are the only games I've seen. With our big strikers, tough midfielders and pacey wingers, it seems our football might be a bit 'obvious' this season - a lot of kicking it long from the back and seeing if we can win it back in the middle of the park. Still short of a solid spine in my opinion; centre back, creative midfielder, mobile centre forward. Not sure what anyone else thinks?
Mid-table obscurity beckons.

Re: Lancaster tonight..??
I worry who is going to create chances in midfield, we don't seem to have an attacking central midfielder

Interesting how two fans at the same game have completely opposite views of certain players.
Matty B says that Williams was commanding, and Moyo has the makings of a class act. Whereas Moribund says that Moyo hasn't a clue and Williams is not very mobile. Just shows how most of us see games differently I guess.

Re: Lancaster tonight..??
It was a dire game, hardly any chances. When Lancaster scored I knew we weren't going to reply. It was just one of those games. No one really stood out for me last night, but it's nothing to lose sleep over.

Yes, it seems as though the stock characters in the latest Barrow drama are coming together nicely. Bowen looks like the Bolland replacement (so tall but can't head the ball), Williams is the Jones character (commanding but not mobile), I think I have seen a Ruthers replacement mentioned somewhere (tricky but frustrating). Yes, plenty of players to split opinions on the forum again!GTBLUE wrote:Interesting how two fans at the same game have completely opposite views of certain players.

Take stock the gathering storm clouds, for anger will come from frustrated expectations.Jim wrote:Yes, it seems as though the stock characters in the latest Barrow drama are coming together nicely.
